Curious end date of Nov 15, 2017. I wonder why? I know it is one year from start but why not end of 2017? or end of SPG program?

Amex SPG not awarding 2 points at Taipei Marriott

BEWARE – I switched to using the Amex SPG card at the Taipei Marriott. Amex is not giving me 2 X SPG points for this hotel. They are claiming the merchant name is Yi Hua, not Marriott. It actually says Yi Hua – Taipei Marriott. I get 5 X points on my Chase card at the same hotel. I actually had a phone agent say it is because the transaction is not in U.S. dollars. Honestly no reply for that level of stupidity.

I am posting this wherever I can to warn people. Don’t use the SPG card at Marriott properties outside of the USA or at any franchise Marriotts that might post as something other than Marriott on the credit card statement.

I'm switching back to my Chase card for all Marriott properties. The hassle factor this has caused is not worth the extra point per dollar for using the SPG card.

Thread title edited to more accurately reflect the evidence, and transferred to SPG forum where a larger number of Starwood guests will see it -and- where there are paid Starwood employees who can work to resolve the transitional coding issue.

Trying to resolve it from the Amex end since they are the ones who award the points, but they are being intransigent so far.

I've added this query into the main thread on this topic : this is a newly-introduced benefit so this may well, as mia noted, be a transitional coding issue.

This thread will be monitored by the Lurker team, and I'm pretty sure that you'll be getting an informed response in due course.

We learned this morning that the Taipei Marriott was missing from American Express' list of Marriott properties and that they will be added as soon as possible.

Anyone missing their bonus Starpoints from using their SPG AMEX at this property should send us the details so we can ensure they get their points.

Thank you for your help William and the whole SPG social media team ^
You've done far better than the initial replies from Amex customer service agents and turned this from a negative into a positive experience.

Used the SPG AMEX at the Mauna Kea AC Hotel in Hawaii instead of my Chase Marriott. Similar to Taipei no bonus points credited.

Contacted Amex and I provided information that I was credited Marriott Rewards point for the stay and also quoted to them the promotion letter providing the T&C where the bonus should be applied. After a month I was denied. Totally pissed off with their lack of understanding of the rules and not providing basic customer service.

After another online chat Called and got a supervisor (after a call was dropped). He was not familiar with the promotion but awarded me the 1,100 points just to keep me happy I guess.

A lot of aggravation for $20 worth of points but it was the principle.

I didn't get x2 for the Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, LC.

Talked to Amex first, who punted me to go talk to SPG.

Talked to SPG, told me to go talk to Amex.

So who do I talk to about an issue when a new SPG hotel isn't earning x2 on Amex SPG?

Japan SPG Amex has the same promotion running through Nov 15,2017 just like Canadian one.. and i'm wondering about a few things, first two which i guess apply for both: 1) if we book and prepaid for stay beyond Nov 15th, 2017 (say, Dec 2017) before the end of the promo period, would the double point promo applies since the payment falls within the period?, 2) the T&C says that there are some properties not participating in the promo.. any idea where we can get the list? And 3) how do we ensure that the double point promo is applied for our stay, as we in Japan are not given a breakdown of points we get through every credit card transaction, but instead just a monthly lump amount posted as 'bonus' on our spg account, and not even with the same transaction cycle with the credit card billing cycle in the first place?

Thanks in advancd

Hi bakaneko85,

1) if we book and prepaid for stay beyond Nov 15th, 2017 (say, Dec 2017) before the end of the promo period, would the double point promo applies since the payment falls within the period?
Answer: If it is prepaid and charged to SPG Amex card by Nov 15 2017, even the stay takes place after Nov 15 2017, card members are eligible to receive double points.

2) the T&C says that there are some properties not participating in the promo.. any idea where we can get the list?
Answer: The participating list is not available. Please contact Amex call center if you want to make sure whether upcoming stay at any Marriott hotels / SPG participating hotels are eligible for double points. The Amex call center team will see to it that you will receive double points.

3) how do we ensure that the double point promo is applied for our stay, as we in Japan are not given a breakdown of points we get through every credit card transaction, but instead just a monthly lump amount posted as 'bonus' on our spg account, and not even with the same transaction cycle with the credit card billing cycle in the first place?
Answer: Only lump sum of monthly shopping points + double points are available through SPG account point balance. If you wish to know the breakdown, please kindly contact the Amex call center.

We hope this information helps.
