SPG members : post your Marriott stay experiences after linking your account

I am on my first Marriott stay after linking my SPG Platinum status. And I must say...that I am totally underwhelmed. I now understand previous posts saying that Marriott Platinum is worthless. I would, sadly, have to agree at them. So much for my extreme excitement on the account linking. I'm over it now. Back to reality. And back to SPG Platinum benefits.

Out of curiosity, care to share? Other than likely not getting a suite (I'm guessing)...what else made it so much more "worthless" compared to a typical SPG Plat experience?

Wow, eight sentences and not a single piece of actual information.

In which brand are you staying at ? It's not very surprising if you are staying at a mid-range brand (Courtyard or below), where the only Plat benefit is the extra few points. Would be more surprised if you are staying at Marriott, JW or Renaissance...

I don't know what I should be expecting going into a Ritz Carlton Toronto.

As far as I know, I got the corner suite I booked. No special perks, no free breakfast or discount on hotel restaurants or Spa (their 360 degree spa shower head was awesome). There was the points enhancement but pretty minor.

I think the Marriott Platinum benefits don't extend to the Ritz.

For our SPG, we have upgrade certs and can use them for upgrades even at St Regis hotels.

I have just booked my first stay at the Renaissance Historic District, Charleston, SC in 2 weeks. The only SPG property in Charleston is an airport Aloft. I will report back.

Edit: Hurricane Matthew has knocked me out of this stay.

Free Breakfast and Lounge access does not apply to Ritz Carlton properties, it's stated in the T&Cs.

Sadly, you got what you should have expected, essentially nothing. Lack of benefits at RC properties and limited benefits at all resort properties are the worst parts of the MR program for me, and hopefully this is one area where there will be significant changes when there is a combined program. Otherwise, my MR platinum status will likely be short-lived once SPG is gone for good, especially if they move SPG resorts, luxury collection and/or St. Regis properties into this limited benefit group.

Which property & what were you underwhelmed about? Just making a comment w/o any information isn't really that helpful to others.

Note, while I am responding to this FTer I've said that many times in other forums when someone says something & then provides no details, so it's not specifically aimed at NavyChief.

I agree w/ OxonFlyer - the thread should make interesting reading & it might be helpful to have one on the Marriott forum as well, for MR elites to report on their stays at SPG properties. I'll start one there (done; I did ask folk to provide specifics).

Cheers.

To be useful, posts really need to delineate the promised benefits by elite level and brand, and address exactly what was and was not delivered. If somebody complains he didn't get a benefit that isn't promised it is just uninformed whining.

Marriott Plat does extend to Ritz, just that no one get free breakfast at Ritz. Actually that's not true, one time we did get free breakfast as a platinum gift which was nice but it's rare. And no one get free breakfast at Marriott Resorts....

For free breakfast at a RC, you must either pay for lounge access or book a FHR or similar rate.

But that's not really free though.. you just prepay for it in a package deal or club room. I also stayed at a JW Marriott (non resort) where they close the lounge on the weekends and holidays, so no free breakfast at all. I just happened to stay there on a 3 days weekend.
