Marriott Status Downgraded after Linking Accounts

I am Marriott Gold and just a credit card holder with SPG; I just linked my accounts and discovered my Marriott status had been changed to silver. Any one else have this issue?

Definitely screwy. I think you may need to involve the lurkers.

Suppose you should have matched from the Marriott site and status to SPG, not SPG to Marriott. However, it should be easily resolved by calling Marriott cs tomorrow. Let us know how it turns out.

Shouldn't matter. I did both my and my wife's link from the SPG site, and both matches worked correctly (my Platinium to Marriott and my wife's Gold to SPG).

Hi 1353513636,

Have you contacted Marriott Rewards Customer Service in regard to this? If you could provide your accounts details to us via private mail here or by email below, we will help forward to the appropriate team to look into.

My Marriott status went from Lifetime Gold Elite to just Gold....when I linked to SPG account which was changed to Gold. I guess I will have to contact Marriott to make sure I didn't lose Lifetime status.

Where does it show on Marriott's site your lifetime status? It's been years since I even looked.

Spg/marriott combining of accounts

I combined my accounts several days ago and because I am a Marriott lifetime Platinum, my level changed with SPG to Platinum as well.
I am not sure why your level would go down with Marriott when you combined your aco..... If I were you, I would call Marriott and ask how you went from Gold to Silver when you combined your accounts. Both accounts should show the highest level you have with either SPG or Marriott.

Log in, click on your account, click on nights & it will bring up # of nights & points towards LT status.

Cheers.

no match via promotions

Did you read the FAQ? Only EARNED status will transfer, not status gained via promotions, etc. I am assuming that your credit card bonus allowed you status but that is considered promotional.

My wife's Marriott status came through Rewards Plus, and transferred to SPG with no problem.

Since SPG Preferred Plus is never "earned" and only comes through memberships (Amex, AARP, AAA, etc), that doesn't seem to apply since they specifically say they match SPG Preferred Plus to Marriott Silver.

And there is no reason at all that status should ever go down based on account linking. This is clearly a bug.

I'm aware of that. But I don't see how this would have told the poster that
My Marriott status went from Lifetime Gold Elite to just Gold.

I am lifetime platinum, and even before the SPG merger half the time or more my account references as simply Platinum. There is no difference between Gold and Lifetime Gold in benefits, and as long as you retain the Gold status at Marriott (which you always will with your lifetime status), then you will retain Gold at SPG. My guess is they will eventually merge the two programs, though I have no inside knowledge of their plans.
