We'll be "ringing in" the merger at the Palace Hotel SF.
(Used an SNA award, and Superior Suite cleared earlier this week.) **Fingers crossed it stays.
I am at SLS in Las Vegas. This is an excellent STARWOOD property. Regarding the merger I view this as diminishing SPG value and am not celebrating.

No celebration. I'm holding a wake in a suite in a Sheraton. My beverage of choice is Stag's Leap Artemis cab 2013.

At SPG Element in NYC today.
Points stay...default of low floor, no upgrade.
Asked for early check in: 2pm. Arrived about 2:40...default rooms posted at late checkout.
Ended up getting 38th floor (out of 40).
Upon walk in, there is a 36x72 poster that is promoting Ritz, Marriott and SPG rewards.
Riding the elevator, several floors that opened, literally had a contractor on his knees replacing carpet!
Front desk says that they are in transition mode...recognizes me Lifetime Platinum Marriott status and approves my upper level room access as well as many Platinum status amenities.
Apparently, merger confirmation moves FAST!

Mercure Jakarta Kota for mattress run, followed by "real" treats of Hilton Bandung and brand new Crowne Plaza Bandung. Accor, Hilton and IHG, no SPG this weekend

Who in their right mind would celebrate Marriott taking over Starwood?

I agree. (Well, i think the Marriott loyalists are probably celebrating.) I put celebrating in quotes, as I'm not really celebrating. Still somewhat sad... i know we're privy to a few extra things; but I love Starwood and definitely consider myself an SPG loyalist.

Instead of celebrating im cancelling all my paid stays at a Starwood property in October & switch to Hyatt. I'm being thankful to HGP for the taste of Diamond, without the match i would still be blinded and not able to explore other brands. Just checked out from a local Pullman, also enjoyed it.

There's definitely life after #spglife though...
