Beware misleading AAA rates at Sheraton Ann Arbor

I've brought this issue to the attn of Plat Concierge a number of times over last couple of years (booked an AAA rate that shows flexible but is in fact non-refundable only if you click on rate details or wait for confirmation email) Look how ridiculous this is:

Yes, someone isn't looking at what they are doing. Although screenshots should get you traction with doing a chargeback if you choose to cancel in time. The real telling item would be what is presented in the email confirmation. Do not trust the online details as they can change when the property chooses to recycle the code used, all pending stays get updated with the new terms. This is why it is very important to READ and keep your emails until after the stay.

I have never found a AAA rate to be better than lowest prepaid rate.

Except a large number of AAA rates are not prepaid and are fully cancellable.

I find it to be cheaper at least 70% of the time.

Even if the AAA rates are not cheaper, the flexibility can be very valuable.

Indeed the flxibility of AAA rates is the main draw for me. Ive only seen deals in maybe 30% of the hotels I stay at but I often book them for the flexibility abd if a BRG appears I can cancel the rate if not I am still usually paying the same as was the prepaid rate anyway... 👍👍👍

That does happen now and then. We always book an AAA rate well in advance, then a week or two prior to travel when we know we're not changing our plans we swap to a prepaid or non-cancelable rate

If SPG fails to take action, try reporting this to AAA. They negotiated the contract to be able to offer the rate to their members and would probably take exception to it being violated by rouge properties. Maybe AAA should add honesty to their diamond ratings. That's something some properties cherish.

People do make mistakes. It's certainly possible that this problem is the result of a simple error and not some Machiavellian scheme to screw over guests.

Agreed! I would give Starwood the benefit of the doubt!

It's not Starwood, it's the property. And given that I've had to cancel reservations in the past (which was a PITA and had to engage Platinum desk to have property waive cxl penalty that wasnt at all disclosed) I would say there is at least "willful blindness" to the ongoing issue.

Yes, they most definitely do. But if they won't listen to a polite request, sic the big dogs on them!
