Just a quick courtesy update for this thread as there hasn't been any info for a while.

Currently in the middle of a 3 night stay at this property. The property itself is fine and perfectly comfortable to stay at. As a Platinum, I have found the treatment to be very good here and was upgraded from a standard room to a club floor room with full club benefits.

The club rooms come with lounge access which includes continental breakfast in the lounge and evening drinks and snacks from 5:30-8pm. Platinum guests can also opt to take breakfast in the main Oven D'Or restuarant on the ground floor. The club rooms have free internet access as well.

We had a fruit plate on arrival and the turn down service includes a couple of desserts that are being served as part of the evening dinner buffet. Current prices are $23.50 for the lunch buffet and $27.50 for the dinner buffet. Plenty of excellent sea food options at the evening buffet from what we saw on our first night here.

Finally, the standard fare from the airport to the hotel is now $15, so another increase from the last reported fare level. For the distance involved, I have no complaints about the price though.

I stayed at this property recently and was very impressed. Amazing service from the moment of arrival. Given club floor and thanked for being a Platinum. I politely asked if a suite was available, and was given a nice, modest, suite. We took breakfast downstairs which was great. I only made it to cocktail hour in the lounge one of the 3 nights, but the selection of F&B was pretty fair. Staff was attentive and professional. 2 thumbs up for this property.

Platinum benefit package also included free internet. I was told to log-on, agree to pay the fees and they would be removed at check-out. But it was seamlessly done before hand, leaving my checkout easy, quick, and accurate. ^^

Two very nice stays ...

I am currently staying in the Sheraton Hanoi during my wife and I's vacation through Vietnam. We came here for one night, left for an overnight cruise in Halong Bay, and came back for a second night.

We were upgraded to a very nice one-bedroom suite, given a private check-in on the exectutive floor lounge, were able to use the executive lounge and have enjoyed a wonderful breakfast buffet in the main restaurant (as a Plat we got that for free -- I recommend it over the executive floor breakfast).

On the first night were were here, I informed the executive lounge manager that when we came back for the second night -- it would be the night of our anniversary. He said that he would make it special. When we arrived last night, we found rose petals on the bed in the shape of a heart and a beautiful rick milk cake in the shape of a heart with "Happy Wedding Anniversary" written in chocolate. Very nice touch -- and a superlative effort to make us feel special. And it made me look like a hero.

BTW -- we had dinner last night at Vine -- an very nice restaurant just walking distance from the hotel. Bobby Chin has also moved his restaurant to a location nearby -- so there are some nice places nearby.

The hotel is great, suites are nice and the staff is excellent. The hotel as a nice tennis court -- that we neve got a chance to use -- and a really nice gym with lost of equipment and space. Overall I would highly recommend the Sheraton Hanoi.

One nit: I will say that my wife had a facial down in the spa. It was not at all a luxurious experience. She was taken to drab room in (when she paid for a 60 minute facial) that was cold and unrelaxing. No music, no candles, no comfort. She complained to the spa desk and as told that 10 minutes of the 60 minutes was devoted to dressing and undressing (what?) and that she also recieved a 10 minute "comfort scalp massage" -- what she actually got was about 3 minutes. Based on this experience -- I would not recommend their spa if you are looking for anything luxury.

I spent New Years Eve at the Sheraton Hanoi as our last hotel in Vietnam for our Christmas vacation. As a Platinum, we were escorted to the Club lounge for check and promptly provided with drinks. I booked two rooms for 3 days and prepaid the lowest available rate (US $105) and was provided a Suite with another room 4 doors down the hall. The suite was very comfortable and the workspace provided and comfortable sofas made a great end to a long trip.

On NYE we went to the Vietnamese restaurant as it was a la carte, whereas the other restaurant and ballroom was set up for functions. A steakhouse promotion was on featuring Australian and US beef, which was excellent. They also had a very substantial wine list and we enjoyed a fine bottle of Vasse Felix Cab Sav. My sister and I decided to checkout the New Years Eve party downstairs in Nutz, the hotel bar. We arrived about 10pm and by 11pm the place was packed with locals. I spotted about 10 foreigners in the place in total. Needless to say, after 3,000,000 dong in Havana Club we were having a good time. On the way back to the room, we decided to take a peek at the main ball room and the party going on in there – we decided to say awhile….

Spent New Years day in the hotel (was too hungover to thing about doing anytime else). Room service was very quick and attentive. My mother and sister both had a massage in the spa, they were very pleased with the quality and came back very relaxed, unlike other posts… Could just be the staff or maybe they have increased the quality over the past few months.

Upon check out everything was very smooth and one of the duty managers that I had never met addressed me by name, it appears that they have attention to detail.

Overall, was very impressed with the hotel and would recommend.

I found the hotel to be a dissapointment after Sheraton Saigon, which was in the heart of the City and has the wonderful 23rd floor open deck bar + happy hours. Sheraton Hanoi says it does not have any happy hours at all (although the check in staff thought it had, and it took about 4 inquiries to resolve this). I stayed over the Christmas 09 period when the hotel was sparsely occupied (I had the gym and pool to myself most days, and felt like a millionniaire in Beverly Hills) but yet, I received no upgrade at all depite being a gold member (forget a club floor or suite, not even a "corner" or "lake view" room). And consider that it will take you at least 30 minutes to drive downtown (3km) during peak hours. Stay at the Sofitel Metropole or Hilton Opera in Hanoi and walk 5 minutes to most places instead!

Horses for courses I suppose. The fact that the Saigon property is a high rise (by local standards) building that has a nightclub with open air bar on the top and the Hanoi property is a low rise without, is as good an indicator of the stark difference between the two cities. Saigon is a fast paced noisy metropolis. Hanoi is quite cultural and sleepy by comparison.

I will be staying at this property in December 2010, and I am wondering if it's worth using 10,000 points for an award stay, or I would simply pay the rate for 1 night? The current rate on SPG.com is about $155 (Cash+Points is only $60).

Any other insight or advice on this property would be appreciated. We will be flying in from Saigon, so will probably take the $15 taxi to the hotel. How much are the average cab fares to the usual tourist attraction?

December 2010 is a long way from now ...

Based on current room rates, this property should be a cat 2 (as it was in 2007). I would not use points to stay there until SPG revises their redemption levels.

Good point!

If this property is a Cat 2, then I will definitely not stay use points for a stay there.

In the middle of a stay right now, and am rather pleased with the property. All the staff I've encountered have been extremely polite and helpful. The day before, I saw that my reservation was upgraded to an Executive Suite (~700sqft). Upon check-in, I was provided with a list of museums in Hanoi that indicated their opening days, hours, and prices. It came in very useful. I was also given a very comprehensive list of instant awards that you can use towards anything from food items to tours (i.e. Halong Bay).

The Executive Lounge in the evenings offers a small spread of food consisting of some sushi, small desserts, and two hot items (yesterday was fish paste on lemongrass skewers and some sort of sauteed beef cubes). There's a limited selection of wine and liquor as well. Soft drinks are available throughout the day.

Breakfast at the Over D'or was excellent, with great service. They have a reasonably priced lunch and dinner buffet as well. Last night, I was quoted $35, which included lobster. Lunch is about $25.

The gym is excellent with varied modern equipment, locker rooms, and a sauna. I had an excellent 90 minute massage for $36.

Yes, the hotel is a short 10 minute cab drive from the tourist attractions, but I didn't mind at all. Taxis ran anywhere from 50-90K Dong, depending on where you were going. I didn't hit traffic at all when I left the hotel a little before 8am. Actually, road traffic that I've seen so far is nothing compared to Saigon.

The hotel also has a travel guide desk near check-in that can arrange tours. You can pay them directly, or charge it to your room for a 5% fee. There are also two ATMs on the property in an adjacent building, one of which is HSBC.
