Le Meridien New Orleans [Master Thread]

This was possible one of the worst hotel stays I ever had inside a starwood hotel. The room service took over an hour to be delivered and when I called to complain no one bothered to apologies or do anything to make things right. On more than one occasion the room was unmade or towels not provided at all. Lobby is cold. Interent sometimes did not work or was very slow most of the time. The restaurant service was not just bad it was sometime so bad I had to get my own drinks rather then ask a fourth time.

Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and had a fine stay. No major perks, but we are gold so I dont think we get much anyways. Late check out of 3:00 PM was nice. Location was good and the room itself was fine, but nothing special.

Not overly impressed with the concierge, we asked him to check out some restaurants for availability for us and he never got back to us. Other than that we didn't need much from the staff. Front desk was friendly.

Biggest complaint was that they don't have umbrellas at the pool! You can rent a cabana for $300 per day, but there are only 3, so if they are taken or if you only want to be out there for a bit you are SOL. We called down and asked around and they just don't have them.

Le Meridien Review

Stayed 2 nights, 3/25-3/27. Redeemed on points at 10K per night.

Overall we had a great stay here. The location is excellent - you're just out of the Quarter, across from the Casino, easy access on the corner of Poydras. The hotel common areas look fantastic. Love the design, still fresh and new. Service was excellent at Front Desk, valet, and in the Lobby Bar. We did not try the restaurant except for coffee which they provide free of charge in the mornings.

Room was standard size, again loved the design, very modern and European. Everything felt new and fresh. The bathroom, as some have noted, could be bigger. But the walk in shower is large with great water pressure, nice fixtures, great lighting.

Only complaint - and it's not insignificant - the hotel corridors on the guest room floors are *really* loud. You can hear every word people in the hallways are saying when you're inside your room. You can hear every door slam. The way the corners of the hotel are laid out, there are four guest room doors facing each other so you get an especially loud and frequent concentration of noise if you are staying in a corner-facing room (even if it is not a corner room - be warned). The hotel should invest in noise abating wraps/seals on the guest room doors.

Overall a great stay, and a great value as a Cat 4 (won't be surprised if this goes up to a Cat 5 soon). If you stay here, ask for a room that is not in the corner alcove on the "non-elevator bank" side of the floor. Should help to some degree with the noise. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat if I could get one of those rooms.

I had my stay (3 nights) in early March while visiting New Orleans. Weather was lovely throughout the visit and had a pleasant time down there. While the hotel was perfectly serviceable, I will say that this Starwood property could probably offer richer value compared with other Starwood properties in NOLA. My stay seemed a little off-brand for Starwood.

Room

Purchased a Classic guest room at a very reasonable price compared with other rates. I was also automatically upgraded to a Superior guest room as SPG Gold. Relatively small overall, but decently quiet as I was further away from the elevator bank.

Bathroom was nice and spacious with a large walk-in shower. The room also had a cushioned bench by the window that is more practical as a space to put your shoes on in the morning rather than to lounge.

Amenities

Pool was small, but the deck overall was nice. They call it a rooftop pool but it’s on a lower floor (so no grand views). However, the exercise room is quite nice as you get to jog while looking out some big windows. Morning coffee wasn’t particularly good—would advise stopping by Revelator Coffee, one of the few good specialty coffee shops in NOLA, which is just a few blocks from the hotel.

Service

The quality of the service was poor compared with other Starwood properties that I have stayed at.

Even compared with other hotels in the NOLA area, I felt that the service was both underwhelming and ultimately disappointing. One example of this was that it, took more than an hour and a half after calling the front desk to receive service to my room, and I had asked for a specific cable but received the incorrect cable when it finally got to me.

Spent two nights there last week. Hotel decor was interesting, outdoor patio space was enjoyable, location met my needs (could walk to Convention Center and French Quarter) and price was competitive. Upgraded to a "corner room" and never heard any hallway noise. Room was attractive but small for a newish US hotel.

I had no billing problems and found the staff very friendly and helpful. Didn't eat in the hotel (too many good restaurants nearby) but thought the free Illy coffee and the drinks at the Longitude Bar were fine. WiFi worked well.

Pool is open but not heated enough for me to want to swim in it. Watched someone else try but she lasted only a few minutes. Too small for laps anyway. If sun is out, deck is attractive if you look away from the HVAC of the building next door. Workout room was adequate.

Overall, a pleasant stay and I'd stay again if needed.

Any experiences with the Platinum breakfast benefit at the Le Meridien New Orleans? Specifically, is it a full buffet at the restaurant?

The following thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starw...t-benefit.html states "Coffee, juice, continental item (fruit plate, oatmeal or parfait) at Marche, offered buy up to rest of menu for $13."

Stayed at the Le Meridien for a weekend a few weeks ago. Had been considering the W, but saw a Hot Escapes rate of $139 the week before the stay that was too good to pass up.

It was my first trip to New Orleans so I can't compare to the other hotels, but overall it was a good stay. SNA cleared into a Corner Suite which was spacious and included an extra half bathroom. Location is reasonably good, although as it turned out we found ourselves walking past the Sheraton on our way to and from many of our activities; the W or Westin would probably also have involved a bit less walking. Staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

Breakfast was a set continental menu or $16 off your choice of other items. No buffet, at least not when we were there. $16 is enough for most of the entrees, though of course you then have to pay inflated hotel prices for coffee and/or juice on top of that. New Orleans is also such a great food town (and also often a sleeping-in-late town) that we only used breakfast one of our three mornings, but it was still an okay value.

I've never actually used the program before, but the "free access to local museum" passes offered at every Le Meridien came in handy. They have passes to three different museums: the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Contemporary Arts Center, and the New Orleans Museum of Art. There's one pass in your room (for a random one of the three), but you can pick up passes to all three from the front desk -- and the pass in your room is only for one person, so if you have more than one person in your party be sure to pick up more passes from the front desk even if you already have the pass for the destination you want. The Ogden and Contemporary are across the street from each other, so easy to do together. I had assumed people didn't use the passes much and so the museums might give us trouble and have no idea what the pass was, but it turned out we had no trouble using them.

As others have reported, there is a big problem with noise carrying throughout the hotel. The suite helped a bit, because the bed was farther from the hallway and there was an internal door to the bedroom that you could close, and combining those effects we didn't hear any nose from the hallway on the floor. But even after doing that, it was still very easy for noise to come through from the room that shared a connecting door with our bedroom. We got lucky that the people in that room were mostly quiet, but considering what a party town New Orleans is, it's a risk.

All that said, if the price was right, I would stay here again (and bring earplugs).

We spent one night there a few months back. Bar was nice. Room was OK. Breakfast was good.

We and another couple traveling with us checked in at the same time. I'm Platinum and received no room upgrade. The other couple was Gold and received a spacious suite. Go figure!

Thanks for the quick update!
I never go in expecting an upgrade, but it sure is nice when that happens!

Le Meridien New Orleans fire 5/12/19

There was a fire yesterday at the Le Meridien New Orleans).

Apparently it started in a mechanical room on the top floor. Hotel was evacuated; it sounds like the main damage was from smoke that filled the whole building. No guests were injured, but 10 firefighters were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation and exhaustion.

Hotel was 95% occupied. Guests have been relocated to other properties, but weren't able to retrieve belongings until today. No word yet when the hotel will re-open.

Had a recent stay here, so figured I'd share my experience...

Upgraded to executive suite, which takes up one of the four corners of the hotel. Each corner is usually split into two rooms. The executive suite has a similar layout. Once you enter the door, there's a left hallway that leads to a .5 bath, table for 4, couch, armchair, and bar area (fridge, counter, no sink). The right hallway leads into the bedroom area. The living and bedroom areas are only connected at the hallway near the entrance and not at the "back" of the room.

Bathrooms actually look somewhat refreshed in terms of decor and furnishings. The actual room itself felt a little dated, but that may be have to do with the awkward layout and window placement in the room. Lots of very little peeves caught my attention. There was definitely some paint touchup recently, but there were paint drop splatters on many surfaces. HVAC controls on the wall were very dated and room took a while to cool down after sensors kicked in. Curtains were old and stained. Window exterior was dirty and glare layer was peeling, so even with a river view, it was very unpleasant to look outside.

+1 Went down to concierge, who opened a drawer and pulled out as many passes as needed for those the three museums listed above.

+1 to this as well. Definitely heard neighbors via one of the connecting doors. Plus, the external to the suite is inches away from the doors for the rooms on either side. So anytime someone went in and out of their rooms, the door(s) could be heard. Anytime that housekeeping, room service, or other guests knocked on a door, I would have to go check to see if they were knocking on my door. If you're a light sleeper or easily bothered by noise, definitely avail yourself to earplugs.
