Perhaps its to make us forget that the program is OVER at the end of the year, just as i hit lifetime platinum.

The sale hasn't been approved by the FTC yet and there are hurdles to overcome as some influential shareholders are not happy with the accepted bid. Even when the transaction is consummated, implementing the necessary changes to properly interface customer information is going to take time.
It's fair to say that expecting the transaction to be complete and loyalty programs integrated before 2018 would be a stretch.

Got my 2015 choice email on 12/25. So I should have 30 days to decide?
Today I got the "You've Been Awarded 10 Suite Night Awards" email.
So they decided for me?

You had until January 15th.
Yes. Anyone who did not elect another choice was given 10 SNA's as the default choice.

Once again, an SPG situation without complete info, like this one:

Why are these important details omitted?

Nothing in my email said anything about making a choice by Jan 15. Nothing said there was a default choice if I didn't make mine.

No email for me. I get:
"You are currently receiving
Starwood Preferred Guest E-statements
Starwood Preferred Guest Member Promotions
Hotel and Resort Features and Specials
Guest Stay/Market Research Surveys"
But the only email I got from SPG on Jan. 6 was "One night is never enough in Paradise."
In any event, I probably would have chosen the SNAs, but I just don't get why SPG omits key details like the time period, especially when it's as short as 21 days. I spent 350 days earning and I get 21 to make my choice?

the 50 night award is a nice perk for loyalty. it takes 2 seconds to decide. but leaving the decision process open for (for arguments sake) 350 days is a different value proposition AND would likely lead to other cust complaints ("but i just selected the gift, the expiry should be from the date i select it" etc).

platinum 50 nights - category 1-5 free night
what are the terms and conditions of the free night such as
timeframe that one can use it
is it available any night that one can book a standard reward
does it receive any of the platinum benefits, such as free breakfast or lounge access or late check out or welcome points or night or stay credit?
thank you

I don't know where you got the free night, but you should be able to check the T&C online in your account for booking requirements and expiration. But in general, all status benefits will apply, and you will receive both night and stay credit.

As with most SPG free night certificates, you indeed must find standard reward availability to use a certificate.
Completely free nights also receive the full benefit package.

It appears that you only see the T&Cs of the free night once you qualify for choosing one of the 50-night options. I'm not quite there yet and I can't find the thread where the SPG Lurker mentioned the new option. But I suspect it would be valid for all of 2017.

And, as you already noted, standard Free Night Award terms apply to these.

SNAs have always been valid to the end of the year AFTER you qualified. Doesn't matter if you qualified May 1st or Dec 15th in 2016, they would be valid 12/31/17.

Choice benefits: 10 Suite Night Awards vs. 1 Free Night Award
This year's choice benefits are:
On the one hand, the suite night awards have the potential to be a lot more valuable than a single free night. For example, the sticker price on suites is often a few hundred dollars, if not more, than a standard room. On the other hand, Starwood's best suites are typically excluded from the suite night awards, awards cannot be confirmed more than a week out, and upgrades to suites might happen anyway. The one free night could be worth nearly $1,000 at a Category 7 hotel.
What do you think?
- 10 Suite Night Awards™
- Gift Gold status to a friend or family member
- 1 Free Night Award
- Five Elite-Qualifying Nights
- Up to 5 rental days with Silvercar*
- SPG donation to UNICEF
- 40% off your favorite hotel bed
