I was pre-upgraded to a Deluxe Suite the night before arrival. However, during check-in there were no Suites available (they were not even on sale as well). Was brought to the Executive Lounge for check-in. The lounge was pretty small btw. There's no difference between the Club room and the Deluxe room I believe except that the Club room was on the Executive floor.
Our Club Rooms are slightly larger as the Deluxe Rooms and located on the upper floors. They also include Lounge access, complimentary pressing, complimentary local and toll free calls.

Great to be back after a disappointing stay at the Hyatt. In addition to the towel elephant on the bed, they had written "spg" with orchid petals. How cool is that? ^^^

Great feedback! Our Housekeeping Department always tries to surpise our guests

Property: St. Regis Punta Mita
Date(s): Jan 2016
Room booked: Standard
Room received: Deluxe Suite
Award stay: Yes
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: Award availability is tough, but this hotel has treated me very well. This was the first time I received a deluxe suite and it was great. It's not the most efficient use of space, but it was so big it didn't really matter.

Date(s): Jan 18
Room booked: 2 Traditional
Room received: 1 Traditional, 1 Gold Deluxe Suite (which does not show on the SPG site)

Comments: This property has many types of suite but only the lowest two level are shown on the SPG.com. Suite is at the lower floor and Deluxe Suite is at higher floor. The Gold Deluxe Suite I received in at 28th floor and the living room is much bigger (around 2x) than the Suite I received in my next stay.

Date(s): 1/4-1/5
Room booked: Traditional K
Room received: Executive Suite
Award stay: No
BRG stay: No
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: The executive suite at this property is a misnomer - should be more of a Grande Suite. The room has a full sectional couch, a dining room table for 6 people, and a separated bedroom.

Property: Westin Pasadena
Date(s): 1/6-1/7
Room booked: Traditional
Room received: Presidential Suite
Award stay: No
BRG stay: No
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: Originally pre-blocked into the Governor's Suite. Was told the room was not available due to flooded room. Was then further upgraded to the Presidential suite.

It's on the app, or look up your reservation on SPG.com, on the day of check-in. You'll be able to see if the hotel pre-block you into a different room type.

Room received: Guest Room (2 single beds) - renovated
Award stay: No

Room booked: Standard Room
Room received: Corner Suite, new tower
Award stay: Yes
BRG stay: No
SNAs redeemed: Yes, cleared days before arrival
I originally booked another location in Dubai for this trip. About 10 days before I saw availability here or the Le Meridian Royal. I chose here due to reports of a great lounge and other positive comments. Great property, with a great room and treatment. Would totally do again.

Property: Le Royal Méridien Beach Resort & Spa Dubai
Date(s): January 21st-23rd
Room booked: Deluxe Room
Room received: Deluxe Suite initially, moved to a Super Deluxe Room instead
Award stay: No
BRG stay: Yes
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: I'm a big fan of Le Méridien and love their new design direction so when I asked for a renovated room, they told me that they had no renovated suites at the moment but offered to put me up in the renovated Tower One. I sacrificed the Deluxe Suite I was assigned in the Main Building for a Super Deluxe Room in a Tower One and even though the room was half the size of the suite, the new design scheme and overall quality more than makes up for it [the suite is well-maintained, mind - just very dated] Looking forward to seeing what the hotel has planned for the rooms and suites in the Main Building once renovations kick off later this year.

When people [not singling out lcpteck] use the term "pre upgrade" it has the potential to set unrealistic expectations that carry over to check-in.
I assume it is a pre-upgrade too. Why do you think it different? Whenever I see my room change before arrival to a Suite or other higher class room I have been given that Suite or room 100% of the time. So to me, that is a "pre-upgrade". Now I don't think it locked in until I am in the room. Still, it is obvious the allocation was completed by the hotel in anticipation of them placing us in the room.

Comments: Executive Suite was pre-assigned on SPG app. On arrival was brought to Club Lounge for check in, Exec Suite was not available at that time but as I was happy to wait for the room to be ready, received Deluxe Suite at 5:30pm. Located at corner of 21st floor.
