Thinking of booking a night this weekend, however I see this on the website:

Facilities Opening November 27, 2015
On November 27, 2015, the all-day dining restaurant, Anigre and Sheraton Fitness will open. Please contact the hotel for further information.
Does anyone know if the hotel is provided alternate accommodations until the restaurant opens?

I'm here now. Brand new hotel with young friendly staff. Excellent attention to service. Hotel is attached to mall that has HSBC and Citibank ATM and a Telecomsel Customer Service center (for prepaid SIM). Also has a LOT of places to eat.

Until the restaurant opens, breakfast is in the Club Lounge on 20. Which is also the Club Floor where my Plat upgrade placed me.

Breakfast is an impressive spread. Egg/omelet station where they lead off with a eggs benedict. Jook station with all the fixings, lots of pastries, beef sausage and beef bacon (no pork, Indonesia). The dinner spread is even more impressive. Tonight there was fried rice, beef medallions, broccoli in cheese sauce (not really) and prawns in Padang sauce. They also had bakso, a local beef meatball soup. Be sure to get that fully loaded. There was also a good selection of desserts. I had a full meal there for dinner. Definitely not hors d'overes. I was told that they will continue to have dinner there after the restaurant opens.

The gym is big. Latest equipment. Nice. The pool area is huge and has cabanas and lounge chairs. It's a bit of a hike going up a flight of stairs without a handrail.

So far the hotel has 90 rooms open; the Junior Suites will be the upgrade ones. Suites are corner rooms. Wifi is fast; 50.62 mbps down, 55.65 mbps up. Very impressive hotel.

Pictures forthcoming.

Is there automatic upgrade to Suite or at least Jr. Suite for plats?

blueslip Jan 24, 2016 1:25 am

I am planning to stay at this property in March 2016 for 1 night. Any idea on a reliable transportation to and from CGK? Uber seems to be an option but not sure if it is recommended for foreign travelers.

broadwayboy Jan 24, 2016 6:09 am

Stayed at the hotel for 1 night recently. Plats get upgraded to a Junior Suite w lounge access, which is a nice corner room with 2 lounge chairs and windowed bathroom. There is a walk-in closet as well. Too bad they did not put a sofa instead of 2 lounge chairs, since the extra space could easily accommodate one.

Service is warm and gracious, club lounge's offerings are pretty good (I am sure it will go downhill over time). Hotel is connected to a mall, although one must exit the main door to go to it.

I'd stay here again, but my only big complain is that the sheets are hideously coarse and harsh. They're not even the crisp kind, which is typical of brand new hotels, but harsh like sand paper. Really.

As far as transportation, I used Uber from CGK. I had to meet the driver in the parking lot since security apparently trying to ban Uber drivers from picking up customers. Might not be the best option for foreigners who doesn't speak Indonesian, IMHO. Try BlueBird (around USD12) or a SilverBird (Benz cars for about USD25)

Only taxis with special airport decals can pick passengers up from the arrivals exit. All other private vehicles can only pick up from the parking lots so for first time visitors it is advisable to get a Blue Bird (cheaper option) or Silver Bird (more luxurious Mercs and Alphards). Blue Bird taxis are usually Toyota Yaris saloon which is somewhat smaller than Corollas. Do note that there are extra toll charges that applies to taxis.

On another note, the Sheraton Gandaria is not exactly in the city centre but it is situated on top of a shopping mall that makes it convenient to get groceries and food options.

Great hotel. Got the corner junior suite with marble bathroom, walk in closet etc etc. Actually you can go to the Mall adjacent without having to go out. Very fanvy mall indeed! Club lounge was great as was the food offerings. We took a fixed rate taxi...250,000 IDR from the airport...desk very close to when you come out after collecting baggage. This included all tolls. We came back on Blue bird.. cost us about 170,000 IDR including tolls.
Very impressed with the hotel which spoiled our experience at the Westin Seattle the day after!

Staying here for the first time, after about 30 straight stays at Le Meridien. Beautiful property, I am in a corner junior suite. Large room, large bathroom, large walk-in closet.
It does have a sofa, I guess they took broadwayboy's advice above.

I arrived here about 7:00 PM, and saw the lounge offerings while checking in. The
evening spread looked good, and breakfast in the lounge was adequate ( having just
come from the SGS in BKK of course it pales in comparison!).

The attached mall has far too many appealing dining spots.

The only hiccup was that my taxi driver( Blue Bird!) could not find it for a while, but even with a couple
of detours the fare was still only 175K.

Service has been great so far, and as long as the traffic to my supplier in Jakarta is
tolerable I foresee making this my new base in Jakarta ( over the past 25 years I have
moved from Borobudur to Mandarin Oriental to Grand Hyatt to Interconti to Le Meridien,
while sampling a few others along the way.)

Not many reviews for this property so I thought I would give a quick update based on a recent stay:

Checked in for a 2 night stay, using suite night awards to upgrade to an executive suite which was exactly like the pictures on the website. Really well maintained, high quality fixtures and fittings, very comfortable if not exactly huge. I actually preferred it to the larger junior suites (executive rooms) at the Keraton.

The executive lounge was well stocked with food and drink for the morning and evening service. Not a huge spread for breakfast but adequate, the food in the evening was pretty good and changed each day. The lounge itself is on the top floor and has an expansive view over the neighborhood. Not a jaw dropping view but nicer than the keraton for sure. Literally the only negative about the place was the lack of turndown service; they did this for me upon request but it isn't a regular service.

The gym was above average with a decent range of equipment although dumbells only went up to 20kg. Didn't use the pool but it looked nice.

The hotel itself was very quiet as was the mall next door. This was actually a nice thing compared to the madness of Grand Indonesia. The mall doesn't have much in the way of high-end shopping but has a good food court and a very affordable cinema with VIP tix at 150k p/p

Location is fine for a short getaway if you're not looking for any fancy shopping, Silverbird taxi to the airport was 320k each way. This suited my needs perfectly for the weekend but you may feel a little out in the sticks if you need to be downtown for business or want to hit up the fancy stores.

How does it compare to JW (which is usually cheaper) and to Westin (which is just marginally more expensive on many dates)?

Recently stayed the weekend at the hotel's cheapest regular rate of IDR2M (US$134) per night. Good value for money. Really well built and comfortable. Delightful staff, from the concierge team to the FDAs (both lobby and Club Lounge) to spa/gym, F&B, and housekeeping. Evening spread (no pics, hands full :p) at the Club Lounge is enough to make a dinner of: sushi, cheese, salad, and nearly a dozen hot offerings. There were some strikeouts: a rather rank braised fish and sickly sweet chicken. The Indian corner had decent daal, seekh kebab and papadams. Some lovely roast veggies, lamb and Yorkshire pudding with superb gravy. A shockingly delicious Irish beef stew that would have paired great with a Guinness or a Jameson :D The latter actually was on offer during 80proof's last visit but, sadly, John Jameson has since left the building along with Beefeater. On the flipside, wine has improved slightly with a quite nice Chilean Sauvignon Blanc (at a Jakarta Marriott Club Lounge, a Vivino 3.4 is kind of as good as it gets) on offer. Lounge itself IMO is a beauty, possibly the only Marriott lounge in the city that comes anywhere close -- in terms of comfort and stylishness -- to Lima Five at my beloved, dearly-departed Keraton (interesting comparison of the rooms of these hotels upthread, I have thoughts...). Breakfast at Anigre is a winner, just the right balance between healthy (overnight muesli) and decadent (waffle/crepes station, bread pudding, salmon eggs ben on Sunday) and love how they just make that extra effort to switch things up from one day to the other with a neat roving sandwich cart dishing up Pastrami Paninis one day and Korean shrimp sliders the next. Pool is OK... feels old, unshaded with barren surroundings... not so Insta-worthy, but kiddos still loved it and there are many far worse pools. The gym looks fantastic but, ahem... save that for next time. Plat & Over can expect the baseline Suite/Executive Suite which is not at all bad but has no adjoining room. To whoemver has been upgraded to a Large/Grand Suite... :tu: Used an SNA to upgrade to this room last year (pictured) with only one night out of two accepted. Would return in a heartbeat, but with a recharged stash of SNAs.

I really liked the Sheraton Gandaria City - it might be far out of the center, but they seem to care a lot and the rooms are comfortable. Here are my pros, cons, and photos:

Pros:
  • Upgraded to a “suite” - I think this is one of the junior suites mentioned upthread - it’s a good space for a solo traveler, even though there weren’t any divisions
  • The bed was comfortable - plush mattress, plush covers, plush pillows
  • Shower pressure from the wand head was good and easy to aim
  • Comfortable couch and desk chair
  • Lovely towel art and welcome gift of tasty and fresh macarons along with some other chocolates and cheesecakes
  • 4 PM late checkout - no issue
  • Club offering was nice - check-in and check-out, iced latte was good, nice evening service desserts, tasty paratha during evening service
  • Nice conversation with Nia, the director of operations, during evening service
  • I picked restaurant breakfast as my welcome gift - tasty beef bacon and cheese omelets, nice pancakes, good guava juice

Cons:
  • Not much
