closest Starwood hotel to Penn State University?

I found the Four Points in Harrisburg, which appears to be about 90 miles. Anything closer? Thanks.

Having attended PSU for grad school, I'd recommend foregoing the points and stay at the Nittany Inn! Lovely. Especially during a football weekend!

Thanks Idsant, the problem is that I am going for a big football game and everything in the area appears to be sold out. So I figured I would end up staying a ways out, and might as well get points and upgrades.

The Four Points by Sheraton Harrisburg looks like it is the closest Starwood property to Penn State, JNelson113.

On the other hand, on a football weekend, it is difficult to get from Harrisburg to State College. There is one road (US 322) from Harrisburg to State College. Near State College, US 322 is a one-lane-both-ways road, which is usually backed up. You are warned!

DivMiler, who had to defend his dissertation on a football weekend, and had a hard time finding anywhere to park...

You could come from the east after staying at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Suites Lehigh Valley Airport. It is at least 40 - 50 miles farther away, but it does look like mostly turnpike travel from what I can tell.

I just stayed at the Four Points Harrisburg this past Friday (4/5/02). I got an entertainment rate that worked out to $80 although the “rack rate” is $145, so it seems to me the rate should have been $72.50.

The hotel is an older rather unattractive brick property. . I was upgraded to one of their Deluxe Jacuzzi suites without asking. I was not offered a choice of Platinum amenity, but on checkout I discovered they had simply put me down for “the points”. The staff were all pleasant, friendly and 19 years old.

The Suite was one large room the size of two regular rooms. There was a couch, a couple of chairs, and a large two person Jacuzzi complete with steps located in the bedroom. The decor was ok and the bed was reasonable. The room had a view of the lobby atrium and was very noisy. My room was an end room so the stairs were up against one of my walls - also very noisy.

We had room service for dinner… the price was right, but the food was pretty bad. An opened bottle of beer covered in plastic wrap, only one place setting, they forgot the salad… just not very good. We tried again for breakfast. How could I pass up the “healthy choice” at only $6.95 with no delivery charge? After all, how can you ruin half a grapefruit, yogurt with granola, coffee, orange juice, and a side of toast? Well… the grapefruit was a whole grapefruit cut sort of in half (not sectioned) but it was very tasty and the highlight of the meal. The yogurt was peach yogurt and the granola was a soft and chewy granola bar! The toast did see some heat… I’d say no more than 3 seconds worth. On check out I noticed they stuck me with a $1.95 delivery charge, but I let it slide (very un-me). So… do not try room service at this hotel!

Summary – Too bad Starwood does not have a good mid priced product like Hampton Inn or Hilton Garden Inn or Courtyard!

BTW: The days inn is downtown, does not req a car once u get there, is right by everything including the parties and an amazong hotel

just my 2 cents, but some of those hotels may have rooms, they're just not on the coroprate lists...they block all the weekends durring football season then release the weekends that aren't on the schedule once its released...although once the schedule is final, people call instantly to load up the hotels for outrageous sums...

depending on the size of your group, you could always rent a 'Winnie' and park right at the stadium with all the others...that 90 mile drive doesn't seem long, but the traffic will make it seem like 1000 miles

Thanks to all for your advice. The game is the Penn State-Nebraska game on September 14th, when the huge red Nebraska horde will descend upon the area. As one of those folks for many years, I have no doubt the hotels in the area really are sold out (although I now plan to check again periodically). Nebraska fans travel at the drop of a hat and don't miss opportunities to go to these sorts of games. I am aware of many people going.

The good news is that they just set the kickoff for 8pm EST, which means that we have the whole day to get there if we stay in Harrisburg. Getting back to Harrisburg at midnight will not be fun, however. If anyone is familiar with the towns between Harrisburg and Penn State, please email me privately. I'm thinking that staying somewhere along that road may be the best bet.

I think the towns between Harrisburg and Penn State are Upper Podunk, Podunk and Lower Podunk and if I recall, there's also an East Podunk, but most people use the East Podunk bypass road.

No apologies needed. On US 322, the biggest town is Lewistown, with no motels of any consequence. Mifflintown, a bit closer to Harrisburg than Lewistown, has an Econolodge, if I recall correctly. There figuratively is *nothing* between State College and Harrisburg.

This is getting dire. The Mifflintown Econolodge is already sold out for those dates!
