They said I could get a room at a rack rate somewhere around 400+ euros a night or something like that.
October 1st will see most of Dublin sold out. The annual iba conference will take place in Dublin with 5000 or so lawyers in town.

I'm booked into the Westin Dublin for a long weekend with my wife in November (Thurs - Mon, week after Thanksgiving) and had a few quesitons, since this will be our first time there. Thanks in advance for any help!

1. I've got a rate of 170 euro a night, which seems decent, but I was hoping for a C+P option. Any one have a guess if/when these options might show up for late Nov?

2. What is my likelihood of getting a suite as a gold if I ask really nicely? I don't ususally ask, but since I'm on vacation with my wife, it would be nice. Am I right that this is off peak for Ireland? Any one have any experience with this kind of request?

Thanks again!

I was there this past weekend for 2 nights. Reserved an inexpensive room (paid stay). Upgraded to a deluxe suite. Single level, but seems to be more square footage than the split level author suites. (Smaller than the College Suite, of course.) Room 400.

Great location for this hotel, right between Temple Bar and Trinity College Dublin.

Concierges and all front desk staff were outstanding. Very helpful and friendly.

We took the free Plat breakfast in the restaurant in lieu of Amenity points. They pointed out we'd have an upcharge if we wanted more than the "continental" or cold buffet. However, that basic buffet is very extensive: lots of fruit, good pastries, cereals, etc. They also include waffles (pre-made), and they'll make you oatmeal if you want. They also custom-made your coffee order - in my case a very nice and frothy hot chocolate instead. OJ is fresh squeezed and served at the table. We left VERY full each morning. Oh, the full buffet offered little more: scrambled eggs and bacon and a few Irish dishes.

Would return there in a heartbeat.

I absolutely loved my stay at the Westin Dublin. I was there a year ago in the middle of July. We received an outstanding upgrade -- to the split level room others have described. The bedroom and large bathroom are on the "first floor" and there is a large living room up a few stairs that is open into the bedroom below. The room had a large deck (door can be opened with a call to front desk) which directly overlooks Trinity College. We absolutely loved this room -- as others have mentioned, it has so much character

The location is fantastic -- a few minutes from the airport bus stop and a short walk to the Dublin attractions, restaurants, and bars

The staff was extraordinarily friendly and helpful

Overall, I really enjoyed my experience there and would really recommend it when in Dublin

I recently had two stays here of two nights each in the same week. Echo the two recent posters regarding the excellent staff, location, and the continental breakfast. For two guest per room, it's an easy platinum amenity choice over the points.

For both two night stays during the week I didn't get an upgrade. Can't complain over that since the hotel was fully booked for the week (which was why we had to change hotels mid-week...wasn't going to force availability at the rack rate of over 400 euro).

I'd definitely stay here again if visiting Dublin.

Thanks for the info, this sounds like we'll be really happy here. Any one with experience as a gold?

Can you provide any insight on rooms to request? Quiet rooms? Views?

Stayed here one night for work...great place. Had a room with great view + windows and envy those who got the deck upgrade. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Do you mean "deck" as in a balcony/lanai? Sounds suite!

Anyone? Since I don't have status is there a certain floor that is better? Higher the better for less street noise I suspect. Anyone stayed there in last few months?

We have a 2 night stay booked during the first week of Oct. using pts.

TIA

Just stayed at the Westin Dublin for 2 nights on a short stopover between our stays in London and Paris. We arrived around midday from LHR and found the non-EU customs line to be very slow. Truth be told, that was only because the customs officers were so chatty and insisted on giving everyone travel tips which I found rather amusing.

Cab from the airport was 27EURO which seemed to be a tad high, but our driver more than made up for it. Our room was ready for our lunchtime checkin and although my SNAs didn't go through, we were given a writers room on the top floor (5th floor). Upon first entering the room, I was a little underwhelmed, until I realized that it had a good size terrace overlooking Trinity College which was the highlight of the room. This also made my wife rather happy as does enjoy the odd cigarette on holidays.

I assume that this hotel had undergone renovations within the last few years as everything seemed very new. We did have breakfast in the restaurant each morning as our PLAT amenity and it was quite good and plentiful, however it was a 5EURO upcharge from the continental to the full buffet.

We did decide to have dinner in their main restaurant one night and were extremely disappointed by the service. From 6-7:30 each night, they have an 'early bird' special which is a decent deal, especially combined with the SPG 20% deal (food only) going on right now. Needless to say, service was spotty at best. We waited 55 minutes to get our entrees from the time we ordered and that was only after having asked twice when they were coming (the restaurant was 1/3 full at best). Once our steaks did come out, mine was more medium well than medium rare, but by that point we were already late for an event we were attending so I didn't send it back.

Location is awesome as you are right on the edge of the Temple Bar area. This area can be a little touristy but drinks are more $ here. It seemed to be a common theme with any locals we encountered who were extremely price conscious about pint prices which I guess does add up if you are drinking a lot every night, but not to us who don't care about a 1EURO price difference on a pint.

We did want to try some local Irish fare one night and went to Gallaghers Boxty House and it was very tasty. Any of the bars with live music along that strip in Temple Bar are worth a stop in. The Guinness tour was nothing special, but the view from the Gravity Bar was quite spectacular.

Regarding rooms on the top floor:

As in most European hotels, the top floor used to be for the servants and is sort of in the attic. I hate dormer windows and sloping ceilings, so I avoid them.

I booked directly into a suite (regular rooms were sold out, and it was right before the category increase, so it turns out that the old suite rate was the new regular rate for awards), and got one on top. Asked to be changed, they couldn't the first night but said they would move me the next day.

They moved me to the presidential college suite. Fantastic. Two rooms above, four rooms below. One of the rooms above was a library, the other had a treadmill infront of a great TV. Living Room was huge, Dining Room gorgeous.

They made fans for life.

No help available?

Hi William,

I've never run into this and its actually happening on my Honeymoon?

I've got over 125days this year, so I'm a PLAT, I've got an Ambassador, yada yada yada so I'm a cash cow for SPG.

Anyways I've had a reservation open for months for at the Westin Dublin 10/25/12 - 10/27/12, and as things go my flights changed and now I need to make it 10/24/12 -10/27/12 and I'm told NO AVAILABILITY.

Even my ambassador reached out to them directly and they told her no?

The only option my ambassador has offered is to book me at the Hilton on the 10/24?

That doesn't work for us, if we have to do to the Hilton for 1 night we will go for all 3 days.

I'm asking what happened to "Plat guaranteed availability"

I'm just asking for a 1 day extension on an existing reservation?

any thoughts, help?

thanks

Bill

I'm going to suggest that if your Ambassador can't get it done, then probably no one can.

Anytime you want to change the arrival date on an existing reservation, it is going to cause a renewed availability check. If the first night is not available, then the existing reservation cannot be amended.

You might check on a Platinum override for the first night, but it would be booked at RACK rate in the lowest category room available under a different reservation number, meaning you may have to move after the first night, if successful. Also, if the property has instituted a black out date for the arrival date you want, the Hilton may be the only option.

Best regards,
