When will Android get Mobile Key?

I was at the Marriott Chicago Magnificent mile and had mobile key on my Android.
I think the Aloft SFO also had mobile key. But yes, out of 40 hotels I've stayed at this year (ballpark) those are the only 2 I can think of. Although the limitation is the hotel and not Android vs iOS

It's supported, but only on a very limited set of Android devices.

I have had mobile key just one time at a Marriott. It didn’t work. I use it all the time at Hilton properties. I choose my room the day before I arrive. I receive the mobile key whenever the room becomes available. The mobile key will then open any door a conventional key would open. Mobile Key is a superp product and available at many many Hilton properties.
My only experience with mobile key at Marriott was a joke.

FWIW, I got the notification on my Galaxy S7 from the Bonvoy app that my key at the Aloft SFO was ready, and the app had the room number. I got to the hotel and went straight to the room and got in w/o having to go to the FD.

I had it show up ONCE this year on my Note 4. It only worked for the first night. Fortunately I had picked up physical keys from the front desk when checking in. I've stayed in two brand new Marriotts (less than 1 year old) with contactless keycards and no mobile key there.
The fact that it uses Bluetooth scares me. Given how ham-fisted most of this stuff is, both lock manufacturers and Marriott's IT department, this won't end well at some point.

I wouldn't necessarily sweat the BT part of it; it's very likely possible BT is treated as insecure and the protocol used is secure (think of WiFi; it could be open to all or WPA2 encrypted).
