I'm a little surprised it's only a Category 5, considering the W is Cat 7 (with higher cash room rates, of course); can definitely see it moving up to Cat 6 before long.

I've experienced the property as a Crown Plaza. It was decent but not up to the standards of the Delano, Surfcomber (a hilton now Klimpton property), the Loews, Ritz, SLS, Setai, or the W.

I wonder what the property will be like after a year?

Attempting a booking for late March, but I keep getting a system error. Has anyone else had success getting a booking to confirm?

I can't see the Luxury Collection brand referred to on the SPG site or App for this hotel. Are we sure the title of this thread is correct?

I think the person was confused and assumed since it was not falling within an existing brand it would be luxury collection which I don't believe to be true.

According to Spg.com, it's a Luxury collection resort.

Same here. Some 500 hotels later, I still remember the place for pretending to be a luxury hotel without offering any real luxury.

IIRC, it changed hands a few times during the last 12 or 13 years, which is never a good sign. It is right on the beach, but sandwiched between other buildings, so the location of your room is key.

Probably a good alternative, but nothing really special.

You can't compare. This isn't at the (low) level of a Four Points, but as I remember it, it's a basic middle of the road property.

As a category 5 property, it give members who want to be in SoBe proper an option to stay on the beach without breaking the bank, using cash, point or a combination of both.

Starwood lost beachfront properties (Diplomat, Sheraton, St. Regis and the Luxury Club's Atlantis) over the past few year. Now we gain to properties in SoBe proper - The Aloft and The Royal Palm.

Service, (perceived) upgrade ratio, rooms/decor, property amenities, parking charges all remain to be seen. I don't expect to see a super luxury property once the property switched to SPG/Starwood, but not sure what the category will be next year after some investment.

Nope - the person (me) was just quoting what's on the spg-website.
