SPG -> SPG transfer - ridiculous
Let me say this first - this is an amazing benefit and it should be allowed
to do in every program - still SPG is the only one I know to allow to transfer
points between "family" accounts (I guess BA is another one).
So why the heck does it take so long??? Seriously. It should be instant.
No, it takes a week or longer. No excuse if you ask me.

BA program works differently. You cannot transfer between family accounts, but you can redeem using combined points.
SPG transfers used to instant but changed to manual review some time ago due to fraud. I don't see an issue.

with all the account hacking going on, i'd be somewhat worried if it was truly instant. a week though does seem a tad too long though...

At least for Marriott there is a "caveat" in that you can only move the points (in 1K increments) to another account when ordering an actual award. Thus you are only going to be able to move the points required to order that award. Of course nothing stops you from cancelling that award afterward (and receiving all the points into your account for that award.)

My apologies for any delay. We discussed yesterday that internal transfers are currently taking 10 business days. If your internal transfer has not completed by then, you can contact SPG customer service and request a follow-up be done.

That's TWO weeks! Seriously?
If I want to "give" my wife a few thousand points so she can transfer
them to an airline, with those extra points-to-miles delays, we need to count
at least a month! Hardy a benefit....
Counting that the airline awards disappear in hours, a month is not an option.
I think this is gonna make me think twice before using my SPG Amex card again.
And choosing any SPG hotel just for the point earning benefit.
Not worth it for me as I never use my SPG points for the hotel stays.

There are pluses and minuses to every situation. I would personally rather see the benefit continue instead of SPG taking it away.
