Comments: This hotel keeps the title for being the worst for plat recognition out of all my regular properties. Something is off the way it's managed, the owner or relative of the owner is a constant micromanager and seems to always be lurking around the property. I'll have my corp ID checked even when my rate is $10 cheaper than BAR. Beautiful views of the bay though.

So how is this a Success ?

Property: Sheraton Miyako Hotel Osaka
Date(s): January 2015 (5 nights)
Room booked: Standard Room (2 Single Beds)
Room received: Comfort Room (2 Single Beds)
Award stay: No
BRG stay: Yes
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: Pre-upgraded before check-in. There were no Suites available online for my dates. Asked again at check-in and verified no Suites available. I have stayed in a Standard room (non-renovated), the Comfort Room (renovated) was much much nicer!

Comments: At first they assigned me to a Westin Workout room. When I got to the room and found there was no bathtub and no view at all. I called the service express and asked for the new room. finally they gave me a Deluxe room on the same floor (2nd floor). i found it much better for me even though with some street noises.

Comments: I noticed the upgrade in my reservation a couple of days before arrival. I had a tough time booking the hotel, so assume it was close to sold out.

Date(s): Friday evening. January 2015
Room booked: Traditional Queen City View
Room received: Club Floor, King Suite River View
Award stay: No,
BRG stay: No

Comments: I find this hotel regularly upgrades me to a suite, unless it is full ( which it often is). I average 6- 8 stays / year here. This is one of the nicer rooms IMHO. Free cheese platter and local craft beer waiting in the room as well. Very much appreciated.

Comments: I'm 100% (5 of 5 in 2014/2015) for Suite Upgrades as a Platinum member at Westin Bangkok. Impeccable service and the staff recognize us. Can't be beat for its price!

Property: Four Points Sheraton Taipei
Date(s): 19 - 22 Jan 2015
Room booked: Standard
Room received: Junior Suite
Award stay: No
BRG stay: No
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: Booked a Hot Escapes Rate which was cheaper than third party sites. Was booked from 14 - 22 Jan 15, but Suite was available only from 19 Jan, still was a nice gesture to give us the Suite halfway through our stay. Rate was decent but Property isn't anything to shout about.

Property: Sheraton Macau
Date(s): 24 - 27 Jan 2015
Room booked: Standard
Room received: Junior Suite (very luxe we love it!)
Award stay: No
BRG stay: Yes
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: Initial BRG of 1300HKD, Property had a better offer of 1200HKD which they price matched via email correspondence. Fantastic food at Lounge, great service. And rooms are stunning! Considering Rack Rate of its Suite goes for 7000HKD, the rate we got was great value. Look out for weekday specials of 888HKD daily rates!

So technically speaking it wasn't a BRG right?

Technically it was a BRG rate. Upon arrival I was given the choice to either use the balance credit for each room as either hotel credit or a refund (which would take 6-8 weeks).

I see, I guess they didn't want you to choose the 20% or the 2k points.

I believe you are referring to BRG on a third party site? This was not the case here. My rate was initially a BRG rate, at 10% (before the 20% introduction) lower than the competing site.

As with all BRG rates, once confirmed they are pre-payable and non refundable. This can cause problems when the Property comes up with an even lower rate on their site, after you have confirmed your BRG rate, but before your stay.

If you have a BRG rate, and the Property website comes up with a lower rate, you can't cancel your current BRG rate as it would be contractually payable. SPG Live Chat are unable to do anything, as I found out.

The Property is also not legally obligated to give you a lower rate. However in this case I contacted the Property via email and they obliged to match the lower rate (which is technically not part of BRG but rather best-practices within the industry, and something I applaud the Property for doing in order to retain customer loyalty).

I see, your case was a different scenario.

However, you could have booked a refundable rate once your BRG is approved. In that way you can cancel anytime (within the terms of the cancellation policy) and re-book at the new lower rate (if any).

Anyways, let's leave any further discussion to the BRG thread.
