Normally if I lose my key you replace it for me.
If I lose my phone will you replace it for me as well?

My phone is always set to "off when roaming" when I'm outside Canada. So will I have to be logged in to hotel's wifi to receive my key and use it, or will it be sent so I can download it to Passbook?

Maybe they are rolling out in groups of users and it hasn't made it to me yet?

I just realised I've stayed at 3 of the 10 hotels that are currently using the system this year. Think it matters?

Anyway, I'm sure it'll get to you eventually

In a word, no. But, you should tell the front desk immediately if your phone is lost.

WIFI being on is not one of the criteria mentioned in the FAQ. It says:

Mobile device settings required for SPG Keyless:
•You will need to accept push notifications
•You will need Bluetooth to be on

I'm thinking that you will HAVE to a data connection to be able to get a push notification (the key) on your SPG app. So either connected to the hotel wifi, data roaming or local data plan.

Bluetooth as I understand it is for the phone to communicate with the lock.

Guess it all depends when they send out the notification. For example yesterday I flew out of YYZ at 06:30 and did not arrive at Sheraton Waikiki until after 17:00 local time, so 17-18 hrs later. (Short connection in EWR.) There is no free wifi in the lobby here, so can't log in without my room number, and can't get my room number without logging in. So if room number isn't sent very early, could be a problem. I guess I could just walk up to front desk to check in!

Thanks for putting that into perspective. I was just referring to actually unlocking the door.

Too high tech for me

But I don't stay at Element, W or Aloft much, if ever, anyway...

Cheers,

Hi William, some feedback ...

With ios8, I had SPG not in notification center and all notifications turned off, and the error message when trying to register gave no clue that was the issue. I forget the exact wording but it would instantly pop up a message box with something about not being able to connect or something like that. The app could check for the notifications being off and prompt the user to change that. Other apps do that and it would be much better than the error message I saw which gave no clue that the notification settings were the issue.

Anyone else unable to register? I have a new iPhone with the latest iOS 8 update and the updated SPG App. I haven't been able to register despite numerous attempts. I've even reloaded the SPG App, restarted the phone, etc. After I accept the terms and conditions, I get the following error: "Please Try Again. We did not receive your registration. Please give it another try."
