2 differnt hotels same spend different points?

So I thought this was weird. I stayed 2 nights at a Sheraton and 2 nights at the Westin...both at the same rate...bill was the same. For base points at the Sheraton I received 336 and the westin I received 292. How does the system give 2 different amounts?

Presumably not currency conversion reasons?

Possibly a difference in taxes/service charges. You only get points based on rate WITHOUT taxes & service charges.

All USD. Same rate.

Starpoints are awarded on before-tax spend : is there a difference between the tax amounts on your two stays ?

zsmith2 Oct 15, 2014 6:38 am

Same rate same tax.

Which invoice issued the correct amount of base points?

Is there any other spend apart from the room rate ?
Does either of 336 or 292 equal 2 times the ex-tax dollar rate ?

(BTW 292 for 2 nights at a Westin sounds low : you must have got a cheap rate here !)

Hi zsmith2,

If there is confusion with your bills and the amount of points posted to your account, I would recommend to send a copy of your bills to [email protected]. They will be able to look into this for you and to give you an explanation of your point credit.

Yes it's a corporate rate. The westin posted correctly at 2x....not complaining I got more at the Sheraton but it's seems that SPG likes to take stuff away in the future without notice.

That's about 15% more points from the Sheraton. Is the tax 15% by any chance? Consider yourself lucky :)

Now, that is a very shrewd observation. :D

Or there is some unexplained and unintentional system or other type of error. Why do FTers so often see things in terms of evil conspiracies?

Was your room rate $146? If yes, then the Sheraton made a mistake and gave you points for taxes as well. I think you should report it and have them take the points away because it's the right thing to do.

Were there any amenities included in one of the rates?I've seen hotels take rates that include parking and not give points on the part of the rate that they claim is the cost of parking. I don't think they should do this, but Plat Concierge has told me otherwise and defended the practice because one wouldn't normally earn points on a parking fee that is itemized separately.

Is it safe to assume that you were SPG Plat (and not Plat75) at the beginning of both stays?
