Yes, but it doesn't cover the hotel he's staying at so he'll pout in the corner.

Looks pretty solid for those spending large amounts of $/night, here's my analysis:

Here’s what you stand to gain on a typical $250 stay:

The value of the promotion really depends on how much you typically spend at a Starwood. Both of SPG’s most recent promotions, the Fall 2013 “SPG Take Two” and Winter 2014 “Bring On The Nights”, essentially gave you 500 Starpoints/night for up to 25 nights (technically 1,000 bonus points for nights 21-25). The best way to compare the old promos to the new promo is by looking at the break-even values:

  • For the 2x Promo Bonus you must spend $250 per night to earn 500 Starpoints.
  • For the 3x Promo Bonus you must spend $125 per night to earn 500 Starpoints.

Whether or not you’ll find this promotion better than the past few is if you typically spend more than $125-$250/night at Starwood properties. You’ll love the deal if you have a week long stay coming up at someplace like the The Gritti Palace, Venice with rates of $2,247/night in June 2014 where you’d earn a 47,000+ Starpoints bonus. For those of us staying at much cheaper properties, such as Four Points or Aloft and using corporate or AAA discounts, the typical stay is well under $250/night which makes this promotion an overall loser compared to the fixed rate of 500 Starpoints/night from the old promo. For those of us in that boat, the one good thing is that there’s no cap to the earning.

This is a pretty solid promotion, possibly better than the last few that Starwood has run but that all depends on how much you typically spend per night with Starwood. Quick rule of thumb, if you spend more than $125/night (with Sunday night stay) or $250/night (for all other days) then you’re winning with this promotion.

Very good analysis, helpful - Thanks! ^

The table it's great but i think the 3x bonus is 3 times the normal points so it would be 1000 points not 750

Good catch! You're right, the T&Cs read: "With double Starpoints, a member will earn four (4) total Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent. With triple Starpoints, a member will earn six (6) total Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent."

Here's the fixed chart:

This puts the hurdle rate at $125 for stays that qualify for the triple points bonus. A SPG Platinum-75 member stands to earn 8x Starpoints/$ which is pretty amazing. That doesn't include any points earned from the SPG AMEX card either.

It all depends upon how the hotel posts the stay. My suggestion would be to have them combine both reservations at check-in. If that doesn't work, you may have to contact Program Services at [email protected] for further assistance.

It would according to the FAQ for the offer:

If I check in before May 1, 2014, or check out after July 31, 2014, does my stay earn the bonus?

Yes, as long as one night of the stay is within the promotion period, bonus Starpoints will be earned on every night during the entire stay (even if part of the stay falls outside the promotion period).

Does the cash portion of C&P rates qualify for bonus points? I have a 6 night C&P stay at Blue Palace over a Sunday that would be nice to earn at 6X for...

I like this promo better than Q1 2014 "Bring on the Nights". The opportunity to earn triple points is great, despite that there are some properties which are opting out. Actually, I will be staying at a Starwood hotel in London on points redemption during this period. I won't be losing sleep thinking I lost out on earning bonus points. It is healthy for Starwood to offer different promos for different regions, different demographics, etc. at different times, as long as the same properties don't opt out for SPG promos all the time. Promotion variety keeps it interesting.

Hi DC777Fan,

Reservations booked under Cash & Points are not eligible for this promotion.
