Starwood to United (Again)

I know it's a terrible deal at 2:1 but does anyone know how many 20,000 Starwood points translates to United? I called and they said you still get the bonus of 5,000 so would that mean 15,000 miles? Confusing!

Also, any current idea of how long the transfer takes?

Thanks.

why don't you post your spg points in CC adn then someone can transfer UR points to United for those miles instead. Would cost you less than 20k spg points.

Sent you a PM.

Per spg.com, for every 20,000 Starpoints transferred within the same transaction, Starwood will automatically add another 5,000 Starpoints.

So, you will get 2:1 on 25000, so 12500 United.

isn't it 180 days and 180 posts? He qualifies, as you do.

See if the flight is available through Air Canada's Aeroplan website. If it is, get an Aeroplan account and transfer 1:1.

This may be a much better option than transferring SPG to UA yourself, but although it's been done plenty, some people may be hesitant to transfer UR to a UA account that is not their own or an authorized user. Just saying.

(If it was Amex MR, then no problem at all, but with UR it's more risky.)

SPG to UA is 1 to 1 here:

I don't think this will cover spg points earned from CC spend, which is where many earn most of their points.

This is interesting, however it seems that it applies only to points earned from stays and those earned through credit cards would not apply (as schley already noted). The 5,000 extra points that Starwood gives you on 20k transfers would not apply either.

Those people that want to use Starwood points for UA transfers and they earn the points from stays, would be much better off to sign up for this and have the points immediately transferred to UA at 1:1 instead of transferring later at 2:1.
