+1

I was worried all Tokyo props would be Cat 6. I'm really surprised the Tokyo Westin is staying Cat 6.
If only the C + P change wasn't on the same day. I am almost tempted to see if the roll overs don't occur at the exact same time. Keep hitting refresh until one or the other switches and try to complete a booking before the other catches up.

But I don't think I care that much.

This is painful for my stay patterns, as some of my favorite properties are going up, including SR Princeville, W Taipei, Westin Kuala Lumpur, and Danieli, Venice. To be fair, I anticipated all these changes (and they are appropriate), and already booked some 400k points worth of C&P stays when they announced the upcoming C&P devaluation.

Well looks like I will be increasing my spg activity.

I think I'm done with Hhonors, will probably keep marriott around but not sure. Looks like spg may get 75-100 a year for first time ever, marriott will likely get 3 or 4 meetings and 40 nights and IHG will get 30 or so...

After years of 180+nights at Hilton that dropped 3 years ago to 40-50 and I'm pretty sure will be dropped to zero after yesterday.

Well played spg- thought it would be far worse.

Is there any other way aside from this? In case there's no availability?

Le Meridien Jakarta up to Cat 4? lol

It was a much better hotel in 2008 when it was a Cat 1

Unfortunately, no. It requires cancellation and rebooking.

After the news from hilton yesterday, I went and burned all my points for an upcoming trip in Vegas. This is certainly welcome news as I have been staying strictly SPG for the past two years.

Sorry to get off topic but how can this make sense? How high are the rates that it would justify even using the devalued points in a city with such cheap hotel rates?

Maybe its the only trip planned all the way out to the end of allowable booking. With devaluation, maybe the value of using them in Vegas is better than holding the points until after 3/31 when they are considerably less valuable.

Plus, no matter what dollars cost more than points. You can value them however you want, but I can tell you exactly how much a real dollar is worth.

Noticed the same thing...Couldn't believe W Taipei is considered as Category 6 (Luckily I already used the Cash+Point for my upcoming trip)

Wow both hotels in downtown Brooklyn to cat 5... I'm really running low on options for reasonable redemptions in NYC (after exhausting PC, Wyndham, and now Starwood).

Well this is a relatively pleasant surprise after the HH bombshell.

Now that HH is effectively worthless I may push more non IC stays to Starwood, unless there is some big benefits kicker to "new" HH Diamond.
