Notes about the W Amsterdam:

- The hotel is divided between two buildings. The Bank building is reported to be quieter and less of a scene. Each building has a Platinum breakfast offering and guests can try either regardless of which building your room is in; more details about breakfast are included in this post.

- Many people have reported limited upgrade availability.

A Whotel will in my city of Amsterdam will great, but you are totally right considering the Sheraton. Its alsw a big wish of mine. Howeve an element hotel will be build in Buitenveldert at the Gelderlandplein. Though its far from the citycenter. One can take the fasttram or metro however.

Happy the W Amsterdam is BIG..... and its great it offers a roofterrace. The new Waldorf Astoria is Big & Beautiful but a minus is one cannot have a drink or food in the beautiful garden.

But for the garden one can visit the Pullitzer and the rooftop with swimmingpool the WAmsterdam! Will not be as quiet here as in the gardens, since the location of the W Amsterdam is in the middle of heavy traffic with many trams etc.

Am I off base thinking the W is going to attract more of a party crowd? Akin to the W South Beach...but worse?

I tend to like a quiet hotel in AMS with an old world sophisticated vibe. I suspect this property won't do it for me...

You're right on target, I believe. The area near the W is quite busy already. It's one of the reasons why I liked the Pulitzer's quiet location.

Interesting, and perhaps not a coincidence, that the announcement of the W Amsterdam's expansion occurred shortly after the Hotel Pulitzer announced it was leaving SPG in April 2015, leaving Amsterdam with only one in-city Starwood option that wouldn't even open until September 2015 (the W).

Now on SPG.com

The W Amsterdam now shows up in searches on SPG.com, and shows (as noted earlier) that it will be opening on September 1, 2015. No reservations can yet be made.
