Expiring points

My Starwood points are expiring in a month, and I'm looking for some suggestions of how to keep them. I live in a city with no Starwood properties (PNH) so I can't solve it that way. We also don't have Avis, etc. I'm going to be in Sri Lanka for most of the time before my points expire, so I really have no way of earning there (first Starwood property opens there in 2013!).

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I believe earlier this year it became possible to extend the Starpoints activity by simply earning (even through purchase) or redeeming (min transfer to airline) points:

I'm sure some experts here can weigh in on whether this is correct.

Answer one Audience Rewards question correctly?

(Assuming you have correctly set up Starwood as the partner and temporarily become a resident of the U.S.)

I just set this up and answered a question. It say my 2 points will transfer in the next 4-6 weeks, hopefully that is fast enough. Thanks for the great suggestion!

You could also call the SPG line, lay out your situation, and ask for a couple of months extension. This plan worked for a relative of mine. Doesn't hurt to try.

If you have anyone else living with you, spouse, etc. you can have them open an account. You are allowed to transfer points to others living at your address. This transfer will keep your points alive. You can then transfer them back at a later date.

Do you think the 2 points I earned via Audience Rewards isn't going to cut it?

Personally I would worry about them posting too late.

YMMV, but the last two times I answered AR questions, it took 7 days and 6 days, respectively, between the date I answered the question and the date used by Starwood to post the activity.

You can always transfer them to airline miles.

Buy 500 points.
Transfer some points to an airline.

These activities should complete quickly.

I hope this helps.
