I have a follow-up clarification question for Starwood Lurkers.

Does multiple rooms elite credit apply to both nights and stays?

For example: I book 2 rooms for a 2-night stay.

Do I get 4 nights elite credit and 2 stays elite credit earned for my account?

Or do I get 4 nights elite credit and only 1 stay elite credit?

Yes, this started last year? Reward stays now count for elite Stay/Nights.

Terms call for 1 Stay and 4 Nights from what has been presented.

Some properties do mess up, been that way for eons. Terms say differently. I stand corrected.

Actually, they don't...and haven't since March 1, 2012.

Now, a member can earn Starpoints, stay, and night credit for up to three rooms when booking an eligible rate. This means if a member buys 3 rooms for 3 nights, he gets 3 stays for 9 nights.

William, Has there been any public announcement on this change? I don't recall seeing any email about this new benefit. Just curious.

Not that I'm aware of, other than in the new Terms and Conditions, which were published on March 1st.

I wonder whether the extra rooms must be occupied by anyone. For instance, instead of someone doing a mattress run to three properties for one night each, they just book three rooms at the cheapest place, stay that night, and problem solved.

IMO this new rule seems to be in conflict with what I always perceived to be the SPG (and other hotel program) idea that only stays by the member and not their friends and family cound toward making elite status. This is not a change I like. I also don't like the way it seems to have been burried in a new version of the T&C without any explicit announcement; it's strange that no one here found it until now, three and a half months after this new policy began.

I just went through the SPG Terms & Conditions and I do not see any reference to elite credit for multiple rooms. It only addresses earning points for multiple rooms.

Thanks for the clarification

Yes, it would be possible for you to buy up to three rooms regardless how many are staying. However, the SPG member must be present so it's not as bad as allowing someone else to show up in your place (yes, some properties will blow that). So it's a nice addition to the program if you travel with family & friends.

I looked back and this was first discovered (in another thread) early last month. Just didn't get a lot of traction until now. Yes, it would have been nice if SPG would have made a formal announcement, or at least the Lurker's doing like they did for the new Plat levels, but I haven't found a way to turn back the clock. I guess need to make a habit of re-reading T&Cs on a periodic schedule.

Can anyone tell me if this works for rewards stay as well?

For example, if I book two seperate rooms, one night each, using points, and I stay in one of them, and I pay for the incidental costs of both room, etc, will be credited with 2 stays and 2 nights?

Yes. Multiple Free Night Awards and/or Cash & Points Awards would earn multiple credits toward the stay/night credits needed to earn elite status as long as one room is occupied by the SPG member and all room charges are paid and settled by the member.
