I just completed a one night stay here. I checked into the property fairly late at night (~2:30am). The hotel seemed to be at high occupancy and so was not given a room with a king bed I reserved. No issue with this really but at least a slight apology for this would be nice ( you would think that might be obvious to front desk people). Asked about a discount on resort fee for Spg Plat that was not staying very long and would not use any resort offering. and was told not their policy.
The room I was given at the far end of the hallway was in need of renovation but clean. The room seemed to have some A/C issues as it never really got cool. Told the front desk about this at check out and (again a slight apology would have been nice). They said they would let engineering know.
Although the resort seemed nice, I think they tolerate guests instead of appreciating them. sad.

So my experience here was not so bad....some thoughts:
1. was upgraded to a lake view room (the lake is more like a pond, but that's not the hotel's fault). The rooms are somewhat dated and well-worn, and have this odd 'Sahara' motif that was a hallmark of the old Aladdin hotel when it joined SPG years back
2. was offered both points and buffet breakfast as a platinum. Only had time to use the breakfast one morning, and found it to be pretty decent, but nothing to get too excited over - custom omelet and waffle station, some fruit, the usual hot items
3. resort fee - apparently the "official policy" is the hotel will refund 50% of the resort fee to Platinum guests, although when I checked in and explained I would not be using the resort facilities at all and just sleeping there during a trade show, the agent agreed to waive the entire amount - but that was not correct on my invoice, so accounting is adjusting it, but they did reiterate for future visits, only 50% is waived
4. overall impression - the staff here are excellent, the resort is clean and well maintained, however the rooms, bathrooms and overall facilities are somewhat dated and in need of a refresh - and it's time to lose that Saharan motif
5. location - my morning commutes to the Strip took about 35 minutes on average, so while it's not the ideal location if you need to be on the Strip at specific times, the cost savings can make it a very worthwhile option to consider

At this resort, this is how their policy reads:
Resort Charge Policy
Guests will be charged a daily 29 USD resort charge, which is subject to tax and includes:
•Resort pools, hot tub, waterslide, beach and fire pits
•Complimentary kayak rental
•Putting Green and Sports Court
•Family Fun Zone (Giant chess and checkers, ping-pong, and bean bag toss)
•Beach/pool towels
•Lake Las Vegas Intra Resort Shuttle
•20% Discount on Reflection Bay Greens Fees
•Secured golf bag storage
•Concierge Services
•Internet Access in guest rooms and lobby areas only
•Toll-free Local Phone calls
•Daily Newspaper
•Two (2) Complimentary Bottled Waters in Guest Rooms
•Self-parking
•Complimentary Notary Service
•Access to Private South Shore Golf Course with confirmed T-Time
Since there is wi-fi included in their resort charge, they would have to mitigate this when it comes to charging Platinum members, but how they do so is up their discretion.

Latest, from a couple of days ago : a request from a platinum guest to waive/reduce the resort fee was politely but firmly refused.
“We used to charge half the fee, but since the merger we don’t do that anymore”

The upside of this policy is it's a policy. Instead of gambling whether it'll be waived or half-waived or fully charged, we can now factor in the full fee (plus tax) when we decide whether to stay here or elsewhere.

I stayed here in October and was told that the fee was not waived, in full or part, for Platinums. The person then proceeded to describe the benefits I get as a Platinum (late check out, etc.), which are irrelevant to the discussion about the resort fee.

Paying a resort fee at this hotel is like paying a gratuity at Burger King. Find another place to stay....Las Vegas has plenty of options in far more convenient areas and nicer resort surroundings.

The resort fee is simply an increase in the room rate. No more, no less, if you ignore the sneakiness.
