It can take up to 7 business days from the day you qualified for your Lifetime Platinum status to be picked up by the system.

Starwood / Marriott merger
Q : What will happen to my Lifetime Status when the programs merge together in the future?
A : Rest assured we will always recognize your Lifetime Status, whether it is today in your earned program or in the future with a new, combined program.

Unless they see you as a HVC, no, that one night short would leave you one night short. If you get that close, a lunge over the line is in order. DO NOT count on anyone to say close enough... Although I have had some do that, I did not count on it.

I don't know why people are so worried about this, when it says here that the status will be maintained.

This wording can potentially be worrying for some:
Q: "I have attained Lifetime status in one of the loyalty programs already. Will that be recognized in the Status Match to the other program? "
A: "Don’t worry; you’ll continue to enjoy all the benefits of Lifetime status in the program in which you earned it. We are initially matching your tier status between programs, and when the programs are combined in the future, we’ll consider ways that preserve the continued recognition of our most valued lifetime customers."
"ways" could for instance be a mapping between total number of combined nights in MR+SPG and if not this number do not exceeds 750 you no longer LT top tier in the new program or any permutation of this ...

I guess only time will tell whether their promise to "recognize" means the same as "maintain".

Yes, that could be achieved by issuing a Gold card that states "Former SPG Lifetime Platinum" on it. There's your recognition!

+1, I had a quick stay there, and it was one of the nicest Four Points I've been in.

It says "We will continue to recognize your existing Lifetime Status in the program where you earned it today, and in any new, combined program in the future." That seems unambiguous to me. The only thing I can see might happen is that Lifetime Platinum in SPG might not match Lifetime Platinum in Marriott, since you need more nights for the latter. I hope not since they matched those two statuses for non lifetime.

"any new, combined program" means nothing if they simply drop SPG.

When I read this I read that in the new program they will not reset your lifetime nights to zero (and years as Elite I guess if that will matter in MPG), that's all. Maybe I am a glass half empty kind a guy ....

Agree -- I think this is quite positive inasmuch as they will recognize existing Lifetime Status in whatever new program is developed. That clearly does not stop them from creating new tiers that could sit above the existing lifetime tiers but recognizing lifetime status "in any new, combined program" sounds like very promising news.

Actually, I found the original wording on the merger thread (post #13 ) from Sept 23/2016. It is as follows:

I have attained Lifetime status in one of the loyalty programs already. Will that be recognized in the Status Match to the other program?

Don’t worry; you’ll continue to enjoy all the benefits of Lifetime status in the program in which you earned it. We are initially matching your tier status between programs, and when the programs are combined in the future, we’ll consider ways that preserve the continued recognition of our most valued lifetime customers.
So it sounds like they have updated the wording to be more definitive about honoring previously earned Lifetime status.

I don't think they really mean "continue to enjoy all the benefits of lifetime status in the program in which you earned it." Surely some of the current benefits of lifetime Gold/Plat are going to change.

AA only honored my lifetime TWA lounge membership for about a year. I haven't flown AA during my lifetime since then.

BTW, I just made LTP (0 stays and 0 years as Plat to go according to the semicircular graphic on my dashboard), but it still shows me as Plat and Lifetime Gold earlier on the dashboard and also on my account summary on SPG.com. How soon does it currently take to (1) have the status show on my account, (2) get the plastic card showing LTP in the upper right corner, and (3) get the nice boxed kit with the metal card? Thanks.
