It can take up to 7 business days from the day you qualified for your Lifetime Platinum status to be picked up by the system.

Starwood / Marriott merger
Q : What will happen to my Lifetime Status when the programs merge together in the future?
A : Rest assured we will always recognize your Lifetime Status, whether it is today in your earned program or in the future with a new, combined program.

Curious if Lifetime Platinum or VIP status would be considered higher by individual hotels? Is it possible to have both statuses together?

They're normally treated equally and most of the time staff don't know how you achieve your status. Same with Plat100 versus Plat25; they just see Platinum.

That said, Las Vegas Westin seems an exception to this. They had a check-in prize (500 points for platinum, 500 points for lifetime status, and 1000 points as a random prize); clearly trying to get me in a mood to stop by the casino on my way up to the room. That's the only time I've had anybody mention lifetime status specifically.

Given LTP is earned and VIP is bestowed, I don't see any reason why you can't have both unless you are not allowed to earn nights/stay when registered as a VIP and you don't already qualify as LTP. And I would suspect VIP to be higher in that someone at SPG Central Office has deemed you to be worthy of special treatment regardless of your hotel habits. The real question is how far is a property willing to go for a VIP vs an LTP? Super low rates? Presidential Suite upgrade? Assigned driver for local trips? Monogrammed bath robes?

Yups, that happened to me too. I wasnt too happy about it, because every time i asked spg desk before, they wouldnt give me an answer whether i reached ltp. It is very frustrating, only when i reached 10 year of platinum, not earned....did they tell me, i needed one more year....

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else, as there is no way to know how many years you have of each, and frankly, I don't remember how I got my status 10 years ago.

Again, relevant information is not what your "x years elite" counter says, but what the "y Platinum years to reach SPG Platinum lifetime" on the SPG dashboard says.

So please check this counter, align expectations and report to this thread if you don't qualify for LTP based on that information.

A couple of people (myself included) reported a broken Platinum years counter.

Hi Margarita Girl,

With all due respect, it's hard to deduct from your posts if:

a) your "x years elite" counter was wrong.
b) your own recollection of years Gold vs years Platinum was wrong.
c) your "y years Platinum to SPG LTP" counter was wrong.

If c) is the case (and you fixed it through SPG) a lot of people (my self included) with plans to secure LTP before SPG merges with Marriott would appreciate some details on the issue and how you fixed it so we can get our own data checked.

Thanks,

I was in the same boat as Margarita Girl where it showed 0 years + 0 nights to LT Gold even though I was already LT Gold (screen shot below). William and the Lurkers got it updated/corrected so it now shows my progress towards LT Plat.

Very excited to see that I'm so close to achieving LT Plat! I'm basically 10 nights away and have 4 nights booked over the next couple of weeks so I should hit LT Plat real soon!

Question: do I receive LT Plat status as soon as I hit Plat this year or does it come next year? I've generally achieved Plat status by April/May so never paid much attention as to when I achieved Plat since they've all ran into each other for the past decade.

I'd be curious to see what LT Plat status actually means and whether properties differentiate between Plat and LT Plat. As it stands, I'll probably achieve Plat 100 this year quite easily and should do so for the next couple of years. Does SPG do anything for milestones like 800, 900 or 1,000 nights? So far, I have to say that none of my milestones 500, 600 or 700 nights been recognized and when I achieved LT Gold, I never even knew until I noticed the little "Lifetime Gold" logo on the My Account page of spg.com.

Thanks,
(A) Years Elite counter was right and changed from 9 to 10 yrs a few weeks ago.
(B) I had no recollection since Lifetime status didn't exist 10 yrs ago and I wasn't paying attention. I (incorrectly) assumed that Years Elite meant Years Plat.
(C) I didn't have a Plat counter. Just 0 yrs to LT Gold. (Seems to be a common issue that was never brought up before.)

Pretty much nothing. Don't expect any difference in on-site benefits and feel lucky if they even acknowledge Plat status let alone LTP. You still have to earn 50/75/100 nights for their associated benefits. You still have to have activity to preserve your points. A fancy card is pretty much it.

Now does that mean it's not a goal worth reaching? Not at all. Being able to retain Plat status without having to worry about a last-minute mattress run is nice. What's going to happen when merged with MR, unknown.

Ah. I guess that is a bit of a downer. Airline million milers certainly receive recognition which I had expected with this. Oh well. At least I'll have LT Plat.
