It can take up to 7 business days from the day you qualified for your Lifetime Platinum status to be picked up by the system.

Starwood / Marriott merger
Q : What will happen to my Lifetime Status when the programs merge together in the future?
A : Rest assured we will always recognize your Lifetime Status, whether it is today in your earned program or in the future with a new, combined program.

This is an excellent and logical benefit!

I have been PLAT every year since SPG began; before that, I was Westin Premier and SCI Presidential for many years. But soon I will retire and not travel as often. It's nice to know the benefits will continue.

Excellent...excellent...excellent...

....excellent!
Want to know how I really feel about this??
Excellent.
Quite possibly the best benefit ever offered by an affinity program that I have belonged to.
10 years Plat I hit last year and I will fulfill the stay requirement by spring.
Kudos * wood!

I am super excited about Lifetime status. Tragically for me, I will hit the 500 nights January of 2013, but won't have the 10 year qualification for 7 years. And that is assuming I maintain platinum for those 7 years. I was really hoping that one could get Lifetime based on just nights like an airline Million Mile program, but no such luck.

But I understand the additional requirement and still very stoked.

When will there be talk about an elite status level above SPG Platinum?

Thanks for the news. I am betting a lot more people have 500 SPG nights than 10 years of Platinum status so this won't lead to huge increases in the proportion of SPG customers at the Platinum level.

Will Gold status gained from Amex Platinum (not starwood) count?

Kudo to SPG! I'll be working towards Lifetime Plat :-)

However, being an UA 1K/MM, I have to say after 5-10 years or even shorter, you would have so many Lifetime Gold/Plat, everyone will fight for the benefits provided by Gold/Plat and the value of Gold/Plat will be diluted, such as room upgrades, etc.

I have an on-going chat with Starwood about this. For some reason they are not counting my status I got from AMEX when looking at Lifetime Platinum. They say I have 9 years. But I know I have been Platinum since at least 2000.

Thanks, SPG!!!
Key point for me. No more hotel hopping in NYC, I can just hunker down in the W Lexington and enjoy the stay.

#12 -- that's for Gold lifetime benefit only. Did you ever get comp Plat from Amex? never heard about it.

This is an outstanding recognition of long-term loyalty to Starwood. I'm glad that I looked at this last in the list of several previewed changes, as it's really an industry-leading measure.

Now let's hope that today's Platinum does not become tomorrow's Gold.

9.Will my SPG Membership Card mention that I have a SPG Lifetime status?

Yes. Your SPG Membership Card will state SPG Lifetime Gold or SPG Lifetime Platinum if you have achieved this designation.

Lurkers, so, if I am currently a Lifetime Gold and regular Plat, will both be noted on my 2012 Plat card? Just out of curiosity.

My travel dropped last year so didn't make Plat again - I've got 594 nights so ok there - wish I could figure out online if I made the 10 years.

Great benefit - anxious to see if I made it.
