applying SNA on a reservation that falls outside of 2014 by 1 day
Lurker, maybe you can answer this question for me. I booked a reservation from 12/28-1/2 using points that has the 5th night free. When I tried to used my SNA, it would NOT allow me because my reservation falls outside of 2014 by 1 night. Is there any way I can apply the SNA for this? I am OK with applying it on the first 4 nights but it seems there is a glitch that I must break up my reservation in order to do this. Thanks.

If your Suite Night Awards are going to expire by the end of 2014, 30 December 2014 is the last night they can be used.

Apparently SPGs calendar does not include the 31st Dec as a night, though I have SNAs for 30th and 31st this year but one is a 2014 SNA and the other is a 2015.

Christina, thanks for quickly getting back to me. My issue is that I am not asking for SPG to upgrade me on the night of 1/1, i am simply asking to use my SNA for 12/28, 12/29, 12/30 and 12/31 nights. but the website refuses to apply my SNA to part of the reservation that falls within the valid period of SNA. this to me seems like a glitch. by the way, i cannot separate my reservation because 1) the hotel would not allow me to book for 1 night on 1/1. 2) i am redeeming points so I am getting 5th night for free.
It is not a glitch. To apply Suite Night Award, you will need to have enough Suite Night Awards to cover all the nights of your stay.
If you would like to apply Suite Night Awards to part of your stay, you will need to separate your reservation. As stated previously, if the Suite Night Awards are set to expire on December 31, 2014, the last night they can actually be used is December 30, 2014.

As stated before, you need 2015 SNA to upgrade the night of 12/31/2014. 2014 SNA expires before midnight. You can only apply SNA to the first 3 nights of your current reservation if you separate them.

47 nights currently, is it worthy to do MR to reach 50 nights to get 10 SNA?

This is going to be one of those corner cases where the member loses. Since you don't (yet) have the required SNAs to cover the entire stay and you can not break the reservation up and keep the 5th night free, there is not a process to allow it. Your only hope is to earn 2015 SNAs to apply to 12/31.

On the upside, there is a good chance you might get upgraded at check-in and won't even need to use your SNAs. Five days before arrival is better than nothing, but would rather see them confirmed at booking and not making it such a crap-shoot.

I have eight SNA's that will expire at the end of 2014. I am hoping Starwood extends the expiration date or offers something else in exchange for the un-used SNA's.

Apologies if this has been addressed already, but no time to read 130+ pages of posts in this thread.
Here's the deal. Have 2 stays booked at the same hotel in 2015. One in June and the other in October.
Have plenty of 2015 SNAs to cover both.
I was allowed to request suite upgrade using SNAs as normal on the June stay, but not allowed to request use on the October stay. Just get the boilerplate "Suite nights are not available..." message.
So the question is: Can the hotel arbitrarily remove SNA type suites from their inventory at any time/for any reason?
Even if the hotel were currently sold out of suites on those nights (and I have no idea if they are), shouldn't you still be allowed to put in the SNA request? I mean, there could be cancellations.
Any info/thoughts/advise? Thanks.
