Yes. SPG members who completed 50 or more eligible nights in 2011 will receive 10 Suite Night Awards in their account on March 1, 2012. Those Suite Night Awards will expire on December 31, 2013. If a SPG member has 50 or more Eligible Nights during calendar year 2012, they will earn 10 Suite Night Awards that will also expire on December 31, 2013.
...
IIRC I had 47 nights in 2011 and had I known about this I could have moved past the 50 nights post.

Somehow I feel a little short changed.
How about offering 5 suite nights for long time Platinum members who narrowly missed the (then unknown!) goal in 2011 ?

I would imagine this would be live availabile inventory? If the answer is yes, then is it fair to say if one selects that specific suite or premium room online, he/she will receive confirmation within the 5 day window? TIA.
Members will be given a selection of upgraded rooms, including select standard suites to choose from at the time of request. Five days before arrival, the system will begin checking to see if the requested upgrade is available. If it, is you'll be notifed that the upgrade is confirmed. If it isn't, the system will continue checking up to the day before arrival when you will get a final status report.

My apologies, but only those who completed the requirements in 2011 will benefit from them this year. However, everyone can now start on qualifying for next year.

Thanks, so it's fair to say that on the 5th day stay window, if a suite or premium room which qualifies shows available online, would be confirmed automatically and immediately if a reservation is made within the 5 day stay window? TIA

I am sure a lot of people will feel this way. On the other hand, I had over 30 stays last year and didn't need to get to 50 nights, but I did anyways simply because I like Starwood and the properties I stayed at. So I feel properly rewarded in this case.

That seems like a plausible outcome.

I was at 32 stays and 47 nights IIRC.
I probably would have been over 50 nights had some of the award nights posted correctly.
Everytime I book one revenue night directly followed by cash&points or award stays the nights counter does not reflect this correctly (only 1 night and 1 stay posts versus the actual 2 nights and 1 stay).
I never chased it up, as I had already re-qualified via the stay counter.

Had I known this was going to happen ...

Tough, that is the way the cookie crumbles. It won't take away the excitement I and many others have with the announcements. No one will pick up your torch for your mission except you. Let us know how it turns out.

1. How do I find how many nights I stayed last year?
2. Is it possible to use suite night awards if I take my family (in 1 room ) and my sister's family in another room?

You can contact the Customer Contact Center and ask.[/quote]

I think the FAQ addresses this. It seems you would have to contact the Customer Contact Center to do so:

20.Can I request a Suite Night Award upgrade for more than one room at a time online?

At this time, you cannot request a Suite Night Award upgrade for multiple-room reservations online. However, you can do so by calling SPG customer support.

It would be nice....for those with less than 50 nights

If those who made platinum status but didn't have the required 50 nights, could maybe get 3-5 suite nights.... just so they could at least know how the system works for the future as well as not feel so left out. That being said, I still appreciate the service and quality of my hotel stays, so I'm not upset with the changes as much as just a bit disappointed I don't get to try out the new benefits which I might go for this year.
