For those with questions regarding the best timing for applying for a Platinum or Gold status match, this is the policy to keep in mind for your individual determination:

Elite Expiration: The Elite Status Challenge entitles members to one full year of elite status, from one renewal period to the next (i.e. the end of February one year to the end of February the next year) and only carries over if they are upgraded on or after March 1st (whereas earning status naturally* gives members elite status for the remainder of the current year, carries over for the entirety of the following year, and expires at the end of February in the third year)

Elite Status Challenge Expiration Example: If a member is upgraded via the challenge on or before February 28th, 2017 they retain status until February 28th, 2018, the following year. If they are upgraded on or after March 1st, 2017 they retain status for the remainder of the year, all of 2018, up until February 28th, 2019.

I had 3 rooms and stayed for 3 nights.

Paid all 3 rooms in one folio which had my spg number.

The number of nights posted to my account, 1.

Emailed: [email protected] on 28 April and still waiting for their reply.

Granted that its still holiday.

Shifted a 6 nighters back to a Hilton before this gets sorted out.

Looking to do a status challenge with SPG. Joined in Dec. 2015 and have 27 eligible night so far in 2016. I should've signed up for the challenge a few months ago but it didn't dawn on me until this week.

Can I apply for the challenge now and use the past 3 months as qualification? If I sign up for the challenge now will I still have to complete all 18 nights to qualify for platinum? As it is I only need 23 more nights to qualify for platinum the 'correct' way...?

Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks.

You can do May-July or April-June, but not March-May.

You will have to do whatever is the shortfall between 18 nights and the number of existing stays in your chosen 3-month period, as applicable.

status challenge

I received the night/stay credit from both the business and personal spg card. If I do a status challenge, will these nights help me complete the requirements of the challenge, or does the challenge only count nights completed during the 3 time frame. Thanks for the help.

The SPG AMEX credits are not going to help you with the elite qualifying nights necessary to complete a successful status challenge.

They have to be paid nights. However, promos that offer like pay for 2, stay for 3 also count.

Just completed my 18th night for the challenge last week and the night also been posted.

Unfortunately I will have to wait for exactly 7 days from the date it was posted to get upgraded to Platinum.

Had to "waste" a night last night because I'd cancelled a trip and wasn't going to hit 18 for this period after all. Should post promptly and I'll have Plat in a little over a week. Might hit 50 this year, but not entirely sure because I might chase Hyatt...

That 4pm checkout is too valuable to me to trust Marriott - though it seems they've been trying to entice properties to match that benefit. We'll see what the next couple years brings...

No, these would need to be EQN's earned from qualifying stays at Starwood Preferred Guest-participating properties.

Someone i know is just doing the platin challenge.
Her stats are 15 nights/3 stays so far.

2 questions to this. I recall as i did the challenge some years ago my level went pretty quick to gold but hers still is same after 15 nights, maybe i was added to gold and platin chall?

Also her acount stats say:
You're almost Gold. Go for it. Elite benefits are 7 stays or 10 nights away.

Thats right? Shouldnt it say: are 3 nights away.
