By HBI Staff | Mumbai
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc has signed an agreement with Bina Buana Sarana to develop The Westin Ubud Resort & Spa, which is located on the Indonesian island of Bali in Ubud District. The 107-room hotel is scheduled to open in Quarter Four of 2012.

According to the company release, the resort will have four restaurants and bars. Besides, there will be state-of-the-art equipment and a full service Spa, which will offer a variety of personalised treatments for complete rejuvenation. The hotel will also feature an outdoor swimming pool.

Chuck Abbott, Regional Vice President – South East Asia, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific said, “We are delighted to strengthen our presence in Indonesia with the signing of The Westin Ubud Resort & Spa, our sixth hotel in Bali. This will be an attractive and complementary alternative destination to our existing beach front properties. We indeed look forward to work in partnership with Bina Buana Sarana to further expand Starwood’s presence in Bali."

Good news for the guys who have been wanting a Starwood option in Ubud. Could not find the Starwood press release

^ This ALMOST makes up for losing Le Meridien Nirwana to Pan Pacific.

I wouldn't get too excited yet. This projects have a way of never eventuating, especially here in Indonesia.

St Regis or Westin Jakarta anybody?

I really doubt that this resort will open Q4 2012. Hotel openings always get delayed. 2013 would be a stretch....

And then there are some "resorts" that somehow mysteriously disappear.....

I hope it happens. Ubud is my preferred place to stay on the island. I also hope it is done with a small scale, as Ubud merits.

SPG's website says April 1, 2012... We're going to be in Ubud on April 10, 2012... cutting it too close you think?

We're staying at the Conrad Bali for 4 nights, and have 4 nights in Ubud... we're using points for hotels / flights (luxury / first-class), and want to make sure we keep up the trend (without having to spend the cash haha)... any suggestions?

Am Diamond with Hilton, so can probably pursue an SPG status match to make sure we get lounge access...

Komaneka Bisma if you want to be within walking distance of Money Forest. Otherwise Four Seasons Sayan or something similarly just outside of town. I'd be shocked if they hit their opening date, plus the risk of ongoing construction and uneven initial service is high. On the other hand, you might get a great opening rate. And not to knock Conrad, but Nusa Dua certainly doesn't qualify as the real Bali, IMO. I loved the St Regis, though I realized I could be staring at a beach from a gorgeous resort practically anywhere on the planet. So what's the point of going all that way?

Except that SPG no longer does status matches.

No reason you can't book it and have a back-up at the Conrad, just in case. But as others have mentioned, the chance of it actually being open on-time is, well, not good.

The Conrad is one of our favorite hotels, particularly if you get upgraded to the suites. While I would agree with Jamie that Nusa Dua is not exactly the "real Bali," I'm happy to go there year after year due to the weather, friendliness of the people, fact that I am 12 hours from home (Work is closed while I'm awake.), etc. Not to mention the fun of CX F. Go, lie in a cabana all day and enjoy yourself.

We're in Bali for a total of 8 days, so I was going to split it up as 4 nights in the Conrad Bali and 4 nights in Ubud somewhere... I'll check out the hotels you mentioned... although we're definitely "cultural" travellers, our FT/status obsession has made us creatures of comfort as well.

We'll rent bicycles, ride around the country side, but then want to return to a clean, pest-free, hotel and have a scotch in the lounge... lol!

Conrad Bali or St. Regis in Nusa Dua?

It's not accepting reservations just yet... but I'll keep my eye open. I've booked all 8 nights at the Conrad Bali for now, so I am at least guaranteed a nice place to stay... but I want to swap 4 nights for a nice hotel in Ubud so I can experience the "real Bali"...

We're taking SQ C to SIN from PEK (fingers crossed that F will open up a few days before), then taking TG F from BKK to FRA on Suites... it will be an exciting luxury experience!

I just hope my wife doesn't get used to travelling like this...

Thanks for the reminder... my wife is travelling 4 nights a week for the next 4 months, so we can swap her loyalty to SPG if we can get the W Montreal to match our Hilton Corporate rate... she can easily meet any Diamond Challenge.

Not SPG, but I recommend the Uma Ubud (Como Hotels and Resorts). Super place, and likely in the same price-point as the Westin.
