Can anyone comment on whether this Sheraton is considered a 'resort' or 'convention centre'? I consulted Starwood Lurker's guaranteed late check out exception list and this hotel is not on the list.

I'm currently staying at this hotel and the staff insisted late check is NOT guaranteed.

This is a convention center property and was listed as so here under Convention Centers.

SPG Gold benefits?

We're planning on staying in Macau next month. It's a toss up between the Sheraton and the Conrad next door.

Have any SPG Golds been given upgraded rooms, free breakfasts, and/or lounge access?

Everything I've read about the Conrad implies that all 3 amenities are automatically given to HH Golds.

I can't speak to what you'd get as Gold at Sheraton, but we recently stayed on my SO's HH Gold account at the Conrad, and what we got far exceeded what I got at Sheraton on my Plat stays (this could have to do with the fact that I'm a repeat customer and HH Dia, but I think there have been several reports of Conrad being good to Golds). IMO, there's a huge difference between Conrad Macau and Sheraton Macau, and I don't recommend the latter (based on several experiences as Plat). If you want SPG in Macau, I'd pick the Westin.

It depends. A lot of people say the Westin is old and run-down, but IMO, it has a certain dilapidated charm. Sometimes on my Macau trips, I want to get away from it all, and the Westin is the best option by far for that. The elite treatment is good, you get a massive suite with a huge terrace and a pleasant view (the room is not in bad shape, although the exterior could use some paint), free buffet breakfast, and a couple of drinks. 80% of my stays, I had the GM come out to greet me, and the rest of the staff are friendly, as well. The pool is great for relaxation, and the room service and pool menus have 1990s prices (well under MOP100 for a chicken cesar). Cheap on points (or C&P), and great BRG opportunities. However, if you do want to gamble, this is not the place. For relaxation, it's my #1 in Macau.

I agree with other posters. The Westin is a great place to getaway from Mainland China. The downside is the hotel is a little old. The breakfast is great, they have a shuttle to the casino areas in case you do want to go. Fernando's is a 15 minute walk along the black sand beach. A great place for some tasty BBQ. The feeling is really that of a resort and not a mega gambling haven.

Does this hotel offer the option to have breakfast in the restaurant in lieu of the lounge for Platinums?

From my previous visits, was never given the option.
I think you can request it in lieu of the 500points.

Checked out of this hotel about 24 hrs ago. Was upgraded to a lovely suite with separate living room and 1.5 baths using my SNA (XX58). Friend that I was travelling with (also Plat) did not use SNA and was upgraded to even larger suite (XX61) which also had a TV room! (We were in tower 1 which is the Sky Tower. Tower 2 is the Earth Tower.)

SPG lounge is in tower 1 on the 4th floor. The lounge was the largest I've ever seen in the SPG network. Good selection of hot and cold foods, but not very vegetarian friendly as they feel it is necessary to season all the vegetable dishes with bits of meat. Beautiful pool area.

We went from Macau directly to HKG airport using the ferry transfer. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a tax refund of 120 HKD on our 250 HKD fare upon arrival at HKIA.

Breakfast in the restaurant is available at a 20% discount, but we didn't bother.

Do you mind sharing your experience as a gold? I'm thinking about staying there but wanted to know what to expect first.

Thanks!

stayed at both Sheraton and Westin last week. Westin is certain an escape from all the Mainland China. Sheraton is new but is flooded with people from the main entrance to the elevator. On my floor there were a mainland china guest singing out loud in the hallway for like 10 mins early in the morning.

Great service

I completed a stay earlier this week. This was my first time at the Sheraton Macao. Despite the hotel being full during this peak season, the staff handled it well.

In particular, they did everything possible to ease the congestion in the Club Lounge. For breakfast they had the ballroom across the hallway set up with an great buffet. In fact the selection was better than in the lounge. The same room was used for overflow during the evening cocktails.

During my stay I did have some feedback to management and it was immediately responded to. Considering the size of this property, I was impressed with the high level of service which I felt in many ways was as good as the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit in Bangkok. If you like large, modern hotels... this one is worth checking out.

Surprising... I have stayed at this property about 5-6 times and without fail am upgraded to a big suite. The club lounge there is excellent, as well.

I have also been staying at the Macao Westin for the past 10 years, and while I very much like it, I can't imagine a Platinum recommending the Westin over the Sheraton. The Westin is very far out of the way, I am only about 25% on suite upgrades, and there is no lounge.
