My apologies for the inconvenience, but I would try calling back and starting fresh. Perhaps ask for a supervisor if you get the same response.

Any updates on how many points this hotel takes? We may be going to Costa Rica next spring and wouldn't mind a day or two in all inclusive territory.

We stayed here last week, arriving on Friday. The weekend was not as good as the rest of our stay, and I surmised they were understaffed until the crowd exited.

The (dinner) restaurants alone are nearly worth the trip. This is the rainy season so rates are a bit lower, but I like rain, so no problem.

Planning Trip- Questions

Unfortunately due to fall break we have to go the week before the reopening of the Royal Beach Club rooms and facilities. What all does this entail being closed?

Secondly, is scuba diving easily accessible from the resort?

And lastly, should I plan on renting a car and how is insurance handled in Costa Rica?

Thank All

Is this still the case? Any improvement in dinner reservation process?

Check In

Excellent.  First, a bellman took our bags to the side.  He told us to check in, then they would drive us to our room.  The concierge saw we were waiting and she took us through check in rather than have us wait for the occupied desk agents.  It was smooth and easy.  We were on a points stay and were upgraded as platinums to the Royal Beach Club.  I was thanked a great deal for my platinum membership and commitment to Starwood.  This concierge got the resort's Platium concierge on the phone who also welcomed us.  Having not stayed there before, we didn't know about making advance reservations at restaurants. Well, Rebecca had done that for us already.  We got our packet of info and maps, and were on our way. This was a textbook example of a great check-in experience.

Room

We were upgraded to the Royal Beach Club.  We had a King bed.  The room's size is nice, with a couch and sitting area.  The bathroom has a large stall shower, separate toilet area with a door, and the main part of the bathroom has a large soaking tub.  Very nice bath amenities were plentiful. We had a balcony looking out at the pool.  Two simple chairs, not chaises.  But it was comfortable and nice to sit on to relax, and for coffee in the morning.  Overall, we were very comfortable the entire stay.

Service

This was one of the best service experiences I've had, particularly at an all-inclusive.  Our concierges in the Royal Beach Club were outstanding.  They helped change dining reservations, drove us through the resort day and night, and if we needed drinks, snacks, coffee, etc., it was taken care of immediately.  The knew us by name and were incredibly friendly.  Staff in restaurants was very good.

It's clear the hotel has spent a good deal of time training people to a level of service they expect all guests to receive.

Location

One hour by car from Liberia airport.  Plenty of beaches around and lots to do.  Excursions are inexpensive.

Overall

We want to head back same time next year, but want to go for longer.  The rates online for paid reservations are good relative to the experience and the service received.  I can't say enough great things about the resort.

Dining

Plenty of food for every taste.  We didn't experience the general buffet because we had reservations for all the restaurants.  There is a restaurant for nearly every flair of food.  Important to make reservations in advance to get the times you want.  We didn't use room service, but people we met seemed to have good experiences.  We ate well and enjoyed every meal.

Westin Playa Conchal, Costa Rica

I just used points to book a family in a deluxe junior suite the above mentioned property for my family (kids aged 11 & 10). It gave me the option to use a SNA to a Royal Beach Club Suite. This confuses me because if you tried to use cash to book that room, it would not allow you because the room is adults only. Any idea what the SNA will become if we are not allowed to get that room type?

Also, what are the general benefits of SPG Platinum at this resort? I recall reading that there are certain areas of the hotel only accessible for certain people but I can't find that write up. Any insights, tips, advice or warning are appreciated.

Has anyone stayed here recently? Any idea of the points needed to book a stay and if there are any other charges once there?

Are there any Platinum amenities?

Thanks!

It's for seven days and the property is All-Inclusive so includes three meals a day and beverages (including alcohol).

For the week we are staying, using the cash rates in US$, those rates range from 1.6˘ to 2.4˘/Starpoint for redemption.

My wife and I went here for our honeymoon last August for 5 nights and loved it. The food was great, and the wildlife around the resort was awesome. The only thing I didn't like about it was that the beach is public and there are a bunch of little stands where people try to sell you stuff outside the gate. They aren't too pushy, but just enough that you are uncomfortable trying to get to the beach. If you have the points, do it!
