You won't be disappointed

Sheraton Seoul D Cube City was easily one of my best stays ever at a Starwood property. Enjoy!

Yes I did both. In short - Sheraton D Cube - I'm coming back in April. W Walkerhill never again.

I also love the D-Cube, but have no experience with the W; however, having staid at supposedly the best W, the one in Taipei, I was so underwhelmed that a four points could beat it.

I stayed here with my wife for 11 days back in December. I had both good and bad experience with the hotel, though by the time I left it was mostly positive. The bad stuff came first so I'll list that first.

The Bad
1.) While checking in, the front desk receptionist asked for a credit card to hold (the room was prepaid). I gave her my wife's Korean credit card. The next moment my wife tells me she received a text message from her credit card company that she was charged $1,100 (a bit over 1 million Korean won). I was tired and wanted to check in so I didn't feel like haggling with the front desk over it, but the receptionist should have at least informed me they would charge the card $1,100 as a deposit and refund it 11 days later when I leave, rather than just asking for a card.

2.) The air conditioning was broken in the hotel, but nobody informed us. When we first got to our room we turned on the ac control unit and then left. When we came back to our room in the evening it was extremely hot and dry. I called room service to send someone to show us how to work the ac control unit. Instead of sending someone, they called back and apologized saying "the a.c. is broken in the hotel for the next 3 days". That did anger me incredibly. They couldn't even send someone to my room like I asked and just think a phone call saying the a.c. is broken for the next 3 days will suffice? Because of that, I went to the 41st floor lobby and chewed out the front desk woman (which I regret because it wasn't her fault), but I was really peeved by then. They did move us to another room which didn't face the sun in the mornings and that roomed seemed cooler. The night manager also sent us a bottle of wine the next day.

The Good:
1.) Club lounge is spacious and food is good.
2.) Although there isn't much to see outside the hotel/shopping mall on foot, the subway in the b1/b2 level of the building makes it really easy to get around Seoul.
3.) My wife raved about the body massage/facial at the spa. They offered 20% discounts to club level room guests during the afternoons which made it an even better deal.
4.) The staff at the hotel, especially the woman down in the first floor lobby, were really friendly, even addressing us by our names without introduction (maybe staff upstairs warned them about the guy complaining the night before?).
5.) Food available at the D Cube mall is really good. The Shabu-Shabu restaurant and the Sushi restaurant (5th floor? restaurant area) were excellent. There's also a tuna restaurant (I think 6th or 7th floor) that was really good. That one is hard to spot since you have to go through an exit door to an outdoor area next to a T.G.I.F. to see it. Me and my wife walked past the restaurant in the evening and it was completely packed so we decided to go there for lunch the next day and it rocked. There's also a Taco Bell (!!) in the food court on B1 for times I felt like some fast food.

Prior to our stay I was just a spg member and now I'm platinum, so interested if I'll notice any difference. I do have have another stay lined up there next week and will report how that goes.

I've stayed at both multiple times. It really depends on what you are looking for in the property. The D-Cube is centrally located and easily accessible via the subway while the Walkerhill complex is on the far eastern edge of the city and can be a bit of a hike (especially during heavy traffic times). The D-Cube is a very nice, new property with a great lounge. The W is starting to show its age (and of course doesn't have a lounge). On the other hand the Walkerhill has a cool bar which can be a lot of fun depending on when you are there as well as other amenities such as numerous restaurants, a casino, a theater, and a driving range. The W is on a massive (by Seoul standards) property co-located with the Sheraton Walkerhill. Seoul is very densely populated and the Walkerhill compound is one of the few areas of the city where you can walk around outside in relative peace and quiet.

I'm very impressed by this property again.
I had booked a one night pre-paid stay here for today, but my plans have changed
and I am flying out of Seoul this afternoon. So I decided I may as well check in,
and get my points and stay credit since it was already paid for. When I arrived at
reception, I was greeted by name by both receptionists at the Club Lounge, although
I have only stayed here twice before. When I told them I was only checking in, but not
staying, they said that was too bad - they had already noted my breakfast preferences
for tomorrow morning: dry scrambled eggs with onions and English Breakfast tea!

That is great service!

Hi Mighty Travel,

I'm actually traveling there 3rd week of April as well.
I'm currently booked 5 nights at W Walker, but having second thoughts.
I may be swayed to move to Sheraton D cube.

lol u should switch! walkerhill is out of the way as well. W does not have a lounge. Some ppl mentioned the bar fetches a bit of nightlife in Seoul - not sure if that is true...

Points + Cash

Does this property no longer allow points+cash rate? I cannot find any points+cash rate available...

This is too bad. This is easily my favorite property in Korea... I am guessing I will have to move to Walkerhill.

Hi Soros,

The property does allow Cash & Points Awards.

However, not like Free Night Award, black-out dates may apply to Cash & Points Award. You may like to check later to see if the property opens availability.

Just checked out today. had a decent room, nothing special as a Gold (just free internet as expected). Was only there from late Friday to Saturday around noon. They offered 4PM checkout but I didn't need it. Room was about as expected. No breakfast or exec upgrade for Gold but I didn't expect any. Easy to get to on the airport limo bus but a bit of a trek at an hour ten mins. Nothing against the hotel there though. Overall a pretty decent stay.

Hotel Review (with Photos): Sheraton Seoul D Cube City

I stayed in this hotel during the New Year’s Eve, this hotel is not located in the city center but is right next to a metro station. It takes around 30 mins by metro to go to the main action in Seoul. However, there is a big and stylish shopping mall connected to the hotel. There are many shops, restaurants and a cinema. It is good enough for couple of hours of shopping.

Hotel Outlook

Room

Shopping Mall (connected to the hotel)

I sent an email prior to my stay, I requested to have a room upgrade as a gold SPG member but was declined. However, I asked if I could use 1000 Starpoints to get a room upgrade to a club room. Then they replied a typical answer –> “subject to availability”.

When I arrived at the hotel’s front desk, I asked for the room upgrade. The staff said the club rooms are fully booked! So I said if I could use 1000 Starpoints to have the club lounge access, and I got a yes. The club room and normal room has no different, all of the rooms are located on the high floors. Therefore, you can definitely get a good view of the city. In my opinion, 1000 Starpoints for a free afternoon tea and breakfast is really a good deal. As a Gold SPG member, I was given a choice between 250 starpoints and 1 free drink. I took the drink and I used it in the fit restaurant.

View from my Room (Superb!)

After I went up to my room for 15 mins, the lady from concierge knocked on my door and walked in to give me a petite birthday cake. She had a chat with me about my upcoming activities in Seoul. I also asked her to recommend where I could go for the New Year’s Eve countdown.

Birthday Cake (Tasty!)

The room size has 30 something square meter, which is large enough for 2 people. There is a bath tub and a separate shower in the bathroom. I notice that some rooms do not come with a bath tub, but a mini steam room is installed. Funny! ** I forgot to take the bathroom photos :-( **

The pre-dinner snack starts at 5:30pm, so I went to the shopping mall to walk around and had lunch. I went back to the hotel at 5:45pm and went straight to the lounge. The lounge is incredible, the evening spread is adequate.
