When you contacted SPG Customer Care, what was their response to your concern/issue?

Excellent stay here recently as well. Upgrade to one of the corner suites, 727. Amaaaazingly huge room. Ridiculously huge, actually. Larger than my 1BR condo. There was a wedding reception in the foyer where the noise carries so it got kinda loud (not a problem for me), but this quickly moved to a tent behind the property which also got kinda loud, but cur hates whining about and therefore ruining a good party, even if he was not invited .

Rooms were the new Westin style. Bathroom had 2 sinks, kinda small shower+toilet area. Herman Miller chair in the bedroom. Workspace in the bedroom (booooo). Internet fast.

I saw a resort fee as well when booking, but the fee did not show up on the bill slid under my door.

Will stay here again even though it's pretty far out from anything useful for cur.

As a PLT I received a similar upgrade at this property last summer. The suite itself was a very nice size and also included a full-size dining table (6 chairs IIRC) and a wetbar area. I did have to ask for a key to the mini-fridge, which the front desk was happy to supply.

There were two weddings the evening I stayed at this property. At least one of them had the bass turned up enough that the building was beating along with the music. (It really leaves me feeling OLD to have even noticed that! )

As noted by cur above, I also was not charged the resort fee (or equivalent) on my folio at checkout.

All said, IME it's a nice property and will likely become one of my SPG properties of choice for the Chicago area unless I need/want to stay in the city.

Stayed at this property for the Chicago Seminar Oct28-31. We were upgraded to a suite (for $30 a night since I am only Gold) and the suite was huge!
As cawhite stated, there was a mini bar area, open living/dining room, one full bath, and a large bedroom.
We had late checkout, but there was a mixup and our room was cleaned prior to our checkout. Odd to walk into a room before checkout and the bed is already made.
There is a handy computer just outside the biz center for printing boarding passes which was great, however, the computer is very slow.

Overall great stay and will definitely stay here again.

Just stayed here for the weekend. As others have said, this property hosts weddings. Lots of them. They have a permanent tent in the back of the hotel. The music (and bass) thumped both Friday and Saturday nights until just past midnight. If you are staying here, definitely ask for a room NOT facing the tent (back of the hotel).

Best choice would be a room facing the parking lot, as that's opposite the noise. Sides would probably be OK, but closer to the front would be best.

We were on the top floor (12th) of the hotel and without earplugs we would have not slept until the music stopped. It was disruptive.

recent stay

Just had 1 night stay in the weekend..

AS above flyer said, I also had a wedding, wedding reception and conference in the later day.. Very busy hotel even though I reserve the hotel with $71+ and received very huge suite..

Plat breakfast could be offered full buffet in the restaurant. Pretty good one comparing last year (at that time, the main restaurant was closed, so the buffet was offered in the bar, having very limited selection..)

Suite is 700sqft, very huge on 12nd floor..

This hotel charges $10 facilities fee per day (why??) but my corporate waive this charge.. very luckily..

Pros:
low rate in the weekend ($50~80 range)
relatively good platinum breakfast in the Shula restaurant
free parking
good gym/fitness (adjacent sports club usage)

Cons:
cheating on upgrade to suite.. very conservative for suite upgrade..
ignorance 4pm late check-out even if it's a guaranteed benefit.
a lot of conventions in the most weekends.
one lady in front desk is particularly very unkind. I forgot her name.

Though I'm local, I just booked 5 nights for a stay during a home project. Really astounding that they charge $10/night fee. Per Plat Concierge, the fee covers bottled water, local phone calls, daily newspaper, and parking. There is no basis for charging for parking at this suburban location. Hope they'll do the right thing by a Plat as others have experienced.

Facility fee = crazy town

Just looking at this hotel - is it really true that a suburban hotel that is in no way a resort can charge a $10 "facility fee"???

Seems like they are gaming rates and things like cash and points redemptions.

Curious if the lurkers have any thoughts on this? What is official policy on fees like this?

It would seem that they are allowed or they would not exist.

Forgive my naivete. I forgot that nothing that is not allowed has ever been done by a Starwood hotel. I mean, if it's not allowed, it would not exist.

Much like how, when I check in to a Starwood hotel and ask about Platinum upgrades, I'm often told no despite the fact that the hotel is selling multiple suites for that night.

It would seem that I *am* a silly rabbit. Trix are for kids!

Planning to stay here as a plat. Anyone know if they still offer Plat breakfast? And is this in lieu of the check in points amenity?

are they still charging this facility fee? The reason it is so notable is that very few suburban hotels would think to charge such a fee and leaves a bad taste in the plat memebers mouth, who are savy consumers.
