Will Starwood Ever Go to Tahoe?
With the opening of the new Ritz Carlton on the north shore of Tahoe, I keep wondering/hoping that Starwood will recognize the value of this area and open a resort here. Just about every other major hotel program is represented - Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton HHonors. And now even RC.
I cannot figure out why they would give priority to Mammoth, a very small and inconvenient resort with almost no summer activities and put a Westin there and continue to ignore Tahoe.
If anyone at Starwood is listening, wake up and look at the opportunities at Tahoe.

They once were. Caesar's Tahoe.
It isn't like they aren't aware of every market in the country. But really, although I don't know the specific ownership of the hotels you mention, each of them may have been in negotiation with Starwood and various other programs. Cost/compliance v. expected benefit, etc. all go into the formula. It isn't like Starwood or any other hotel group is really building any (or at least many) corporate-owned properties anymore. It also means that hotel brand shuffle may become more frequent in the future (especially as many newer places are in financial default).
So it isn't like Starwood gave priority to Mammoth. It means that the hotel ownership and Starwood entered into a management contract for that hotel that appears to be a beneficial fit for both parties.

I keep wishing they would open even a not so fancy four points or Aloft there. It is such a great place to visit year round.

I don't know where they could locate. Maybe buy out Squaw. Tough to build in the Tahoe Basin these days. Maybe in Truckee or on one of those great new golf courses off of 89, N of 80. wj

-CalNeva Resort at Crystal Bay...(make it a Westin?)
-Tahoe Biltmore.... (make it a Four Points?)
Build:
-Somewhere Truckee and the lake...
-Somewhere within Alpine Meadows to make a village hotel like Squaw?...
(above: thinking out loud on FT @:-))
In any event, would love to see some SPG properties in Tahoe...
