Crappy speeds. Would have to reload the page two or three times to access a site. Apparently, they only offer the option of "Hi-Speed Lite," which prolly accounts for the issues.

Sorry, Lurker! I just didn't realize this thread existed!
The Westin Chicago River North had the *worst* internet connectivity of any hotel or hostel I've stayed in worldwide. This was in early December with both wired and wireless "connections." In-room and in the lounge.
Both my girlfriend and I lost many hours of work that week, and management did not offer any compensation.
I will send my Chicago business elsewhere until someone is able to verify that this is resolved. Internet at the Intercontinental is magnificent this week!
Happy Holidays William
lol watch what you wish for
I think some may have given up complaining during the holiday rush and bi coastal storms.
Being there is a calm here during the storm I'd like to chime in here perhaps off topic.....
Be happy with any working wifi even slow in the worst case scenario however sadly some select Starwood Hotels simply have non functioning wifi service at all and inferior customer support from poor quality internet providers. I would be thrilled to see Starwood set a minimum brand standard by demanding quality providers at the individual hotels and the kind of quality support when I stay at other hotel brands outside of Starwood. In particular kudos to T Mobile. I smile walking into my room or suite knowing the chances are going to be good for a productive stay and functioning wifi
Would also like to see guest assurance/guarantee for the guest if the service fails paid or complimentary as an elite.
That might give hotels the incentive to have functioning/fully operational systems. My experience is they don't care they simply wish you luck in solving the problem.......
As the internet continues to be more important in our professional and personal lives the expectation of quality service continues to affect the positive or negative experience of the stay.Having to change rooms for a bad or non existent signal or spending an hour on hold with customer service in another country that typically is clueless is not my idea of a great begining or end to a positive stay experience..........
Ring in a good one and thank you for your customer service and support of the Flyertalk SPG community all these years.
Its a pleasure knowing you are out there lurking/looking after us! Cheers

Alpenhotel Spitzingsee. Internet doesn't really work in all the rooms in the "main" building. It has been like that for a while (my last few stays over a span of 18 months or so) and they still haven't done anything about it.

I echo your words. If it wasn't for the SPG promo, I would be at Hyatt. Many of their US locations are served by T-Mobile WiFi. Many of the Westin's I've been in don't offer in room WiFi which is no longer acceptable.

Reason: corrected typo
The NYC Westin TS wasa really slow. I tried speakeasy.net test and it never connected. I am now at the sheraton Tribeca and is much better (18.35 Mbp DL and 12.15 Mbp upload).
I would be happy to post to that thread if I stayed in more than two or three Starwood hotels (out of probably 60 in the past 2 years) that had decent (or even just over 1.5 meg/sec) internet speeds.
I echo 777GlobalMileHound in believing that if there were a brand standard (as I suggested in my initial post of this thread) this issue would've been resolved long ago.
I also agree that Hyatt (and even Priority Club, for that matter) seems to have dealt with--and resolved--this issue. I stayed at 10 PC hotels (mostly Crowne Plaza & HI-express) during their free night promo last quarter and EVERY HOTEL had at least 3 meg/sec (most around 5 meg/sec) internet speeds. If the 3-star hotels can do it...why can't Starwood? I would be embarrassed if I managed a *wood hotel that offered practically dial-up speeds (as it appears the majority do). I think it's especially ironic that the W (which wants to be the trendy, urban, upscale hotel of choice) has some of the worst offenders.
I'm sure William is on our side of this discussion, I just thought I'd vent because I NEVER thought this issue would still be as prevalent 1 1/2 years after I started the thread.

Thank Youseawolf and moulder3 for the kind words of support.moulder3 I salute you for bringing this thread to everyones attention
I only wish Starwood could begin to understand how bad the brand perception and damage is amongst seasoned travelers with technology failures when the hotels have inferior quality providers.
I am at the new InterContinental SF next week over a SPG property as I know for certain the wifi rocks in their suites (not TMobile) and they have a great executive lounge
Will be paying 60 dollars more a day over the SPG property I typically stay at with non functiong wifi. I prefer SPG as my program of choice over Priority Club.
To Starwood’s credit on the other hand where they have introduced Sheraton "The Link" with high quality HP computers my opinion is up as the best quality in lobby concept hands down They simply need to make the same committment on a global level with their hotels to make wifi and any internet connection highly reliable. It will go a long way for business and leisure travelers
