Arrow GONE : Le Royal Mansour Méridien, Casablanca, Morocco. Left SPG Oct 2014.

Hello,
I am considering staying at this property. I would appreciate any direct recent experience relative to using the internet from the guest room. Was it reliable? Wired or wireless? Strong connection? Price (if you remember).

I need strong reliable internet connection for 8-10 hours per day so that I can work.

Any other comment regarding the quality of your recent stay would also be welcome.

Thanks

Stayed at the Le Meridien

I ended up staying at the Royal Meridien. It was great. Fantastic service, really went out of their way for everything and not expecting/charging insane amounts like in europe. Really really nice people.

plat recognition was great. got a senior suite (two room) for 2 separate one night stays (though i did call and email before to secure this). also they have a lounge on the 9th floor for breakfast and serving soft drinks during the day and alcohol from 6-8pm, though almost no food during the day (few small appetizers in the evening, really didnt look good)...also the lounge was closed on sunday so they let us eat at the excellent buffet downstairs.

internet is 100 MAD an hour, but its 10 MAD an hour at the cafe down the street (though on Sundays, that cafe doesnt open till noon)...

I was at this hotel recently and it is very nice. Excellent service, nice bar with live music. It seems like a grand old hotel. I didn't have time to use the gym, but it seemed very nice from the pictures. Steam and Sauna too.

As for the Internet, I only used it for an hour and it cost 80 dirhams. I think it was around 200 something for 24 hours. Pretty much the same prices as Europe. It was WiFi and worked just fine. I did some Skype calls to Europe that sounded fine.

Nice restaurants in the area, especially for seafood and Luigi's for Italian.

Staying at this property at the moment. I got assigned to a Jr. Suite on the 8th floor. They do not have wifi on this floor. Only wired internet connection is available in my room. I think the cost is about $30 which I think expensive. You can choose to have breakfast either in the club lounge on the 9th floor or in the restaurant downstairs. The hotel is nice, but a little old.

Try the Hamman treatment if you have time. I've been to the hotel a few times now and it is the Hamman that keeps me coming back! And the Starpoints.

Yes, I did try Hammam and dry sauna this afternoon. I actually went upstairs for a swimming pool, but they did not have one. I ended up in Hammam and it was great. My wife loved it too. We had seafood for lunch inside the market by the bus terminal and I recommend the seafood grill to everyone visiting Casablanca. Leaving for Marrakesh tomorrow!

The cost of internet connection is 100 MAD for one hour and 300 MAD for 24 hours. 100 MAD is approximately US$12-13. I cannot wait till SGP makes internet connection free for Plats like Hyatt.

Just a little bump to say that the hotel is still thankfully the same classic Belle Epoque beauty as before. Still the same excellent staff working the front desk, club room and bar. But there is one change. They now have RFID key cards. No more keys. This was one of the last hotels I frequent that still had hotel keys. I kind of miss that.

And of course since the previous posts, Plats get free internet now which is great. And free breakfast either in the club, or the restaurant.

I just recently stayed at the Royal Mansour and was very pleased with the property. The staff was execellent and very helpfull. The hotel is in good shape and well maintained for its age. The room was very clean and comfortable. Everything was working and the flat screen TV seemed to be brand new. Only little drawback was that I had no WiFi coverage in my room but this was no big issue for me. In the Lobby the WiFi worked excellent. Since I'm not a platinum member I could not check out the club on the 9th floor but it looked nice form the outside.

Stayed here for one night last week. Very grand and beautiful hotel. We were upgraded as SPG Plat to a spacious suite with a separate living area. There was also a desk in the separated entry area that would have been perfect had we brought a receptionist to join us.

The 9th floor club lounge was small but fine. They have evening apps and drinks. You can take breakfast there but the ground floor buffet is far more elaborate, and included for Plats. We also went for tea at night to the club lounge just as it was closing. They phoned the bar downstairs to arrange complimentary tea for us. Very nice!

All in all, a good stay, and a fine deal on C&P.

Will be staying here for a day and change next month, so will give an updated review.

Any recos for how to spend a day in Casablanca? Spending most of the week in Marrakech, which I know is much more interesting, but we need a "down" day after a Friday night TATL, 12 hour layover in FRA, then 4 hour flight to Casablanca getting in late (as opposed to turning right around in the AM and training to Marrakech).

TIA.

So - to answer my own question one full day in Casa is MORE than enough. Getting a tour of the King II Mosque is cool, and Rick's is a fun, cheesy, touristy thing to do. But make your way to other cities, stat.

As for the LRRM...it's *quaint*. Really needs a re-do, esp. the rooms...got upgraded to a huge Senior Suite, but everything is just REALLY old. Lobby is fine...dining area is nice, and the breakfast is pretty good. Gym is solid.

But next time...I'd probably try the Sheraton, looks a bit newer.

Do a walking tour of central Casablanca after visiting the Mosque. Walking tour details in Lonely Planet book. Easy walk taking in a lot of interesting buildings.

If you have time on the way back to Casablanca for your flight home (if you are flying back from CMN, that is), consider taking the train onwards to Rabat (~45 minutes, every 30-60 minutes). A walk through the medina to the waterfront and back. ^

One sour follow-up...I had a perfectly legitimate, good but not amazing AAA rate I booked my stay with (on SPG.com of course)...and now the hotel is trying to deny me Points/Stay/Nights credit, they're saying it's ineligible.

Will be sending a PM to the Lurkers.

Agreed - there are some things to do...I'm just saying if you have limited time in-country, it's better spent elsewhere.

Flying out of RAK so no need to go back via CMN1
