If the additional nights for 3-for-2 or 4-for-3 promo are considered for this promo as well, then, I will plan to stay 3 times, two times making use of the 3-for-2 and one time of 4-for-3. In total, I am expecting 1,500 pts (Plat amenity)+10,000 pts (10 nights)=11,500 pts. If not, then, I will just have to add another stay which will mean 12,000 pts, but additional expenditure for that stay.
An okay promotion for the average traveler but very weak for us here on FT. Thanks for the heads up anyway, William!
Keep in mind that there are a large number of 'average travellers' on here. Being on FT probably makes most of us pretty savvy, but it doesn't necessarily mean everyone is fitting in to a particular pattern of travel.

Oh, I am very well aware of the diversity here on FT. But being here gives you more reference points to compare promotions from different hotel groups and decide whether you go with Starwood or another company in a certain period.

Absolutely agree with you on the reference points.
Just to clarify I wasn't meaning my comments as a criticism either. I think sometimes though, we (me included) forget that we have a diverse bunch of travellers on here and that one size doesn't fit all.
Well, I would have like similar promo as the Q4 08 one, but this ain't too bad either.
I have about 15 nights in India, 8 nights in Thailand, 3 nights in Sydney, 14 nights in Peru and that's only till end of February. 40 nights in total.
So, if my calculations is correct, I am going to get 40K points out of this (minus Plat 500 point amenity).
It's possible that I will log additional 10 days after Feb, before April 30. It's extra 50K points that I wouldn't otherwise have had without the promotion so I am happy.
Is the marketing guru who came up with this a transplant from Hyatt? They ran a promo for many years called "Nights after Nights" that gave free weekend night certificates for every x paid nights (2 or 3 I think).

The Hyatt program has always been callrd "Faster Free Nights". And an award of a free night after multiple stays is very different than 500 program points per night. So other than the word "Night", (and one is singular, one is plural) I fail to see the blatant ripoff you are implying.
I continue to be disappointed at how every promotion announcement is inevitably followed by a sting of posts pointing or how lame it is, or how other programs are better, or finding (making up) reasons to criticize it.
I appreciate the promotion and will have my first of many SPG stays this year on 1/7. (with the 2 day gap in SPG/MR promos until April, I'm going to take advantage of our corporate rate at the Ritz Carlton, which matches the local Sheraton/Westin/Marriott/CY)

I was saying it more in jest since it has been quite a while, but Hyatt did, in fact, have promo for several years running called "Nights after Nights" before it was updated to "Faster Free Nights".
