Anyone know if the "twin" bedded rooms are really doubles? i.e., could 2 teens (girls) and 2 tweens (girl and small boy) sleep in them?
I have only stayed in their King Bed Jr Suites, but 'twins' are usually 2 single beds. However, the room design is such that the sofa in the bedroom is like a very long day bed which can easily be converted into a bed. So if you book 2 rooms, you effectively have 2 extra beds though I doubt it will be as comfortable as the new LM beds.

There is plenty to do in Chiang Mai. I liked the property, but I would make the decision based upon what you want to see in and around Chiang Mai, not on the property alone.

Well, I just stayed there last week. I had a suite and a connecting 2 bed room. I have 4 kids, and it worked out fine. Mrs. Jslo and I stayed in the suite King of course, and my 4 kids stayed in the double. Gave teenage daughter her own twin, 2 smaller kids shared a twin, and pre teen oldest son slept on the long day bed/couch after requesting an extra pillow/blanket from house keeping. No problem.
Really nice property, GREAT service. Lots to do in Chiang Mai for a couple days, my brother lives there. Maesa Elephant Camp, Tiger Kingdom, Flight of Gibbon, Night Safari, etc etc. Ok, for one quick dinner recommendation if you come out of the hotel main lobby and turn left and cross the main night market street and directly ahead is a yellow sign "Thai Food" restaurant is called Lemongrass. DELICIOUS. We ate there like 5 times. Open's at 4PM. Fantastic Tom Yum soup and other things. Great fruit shakes.
Enjoy.

I liked Chiang Mai. Good local food at affordable prices. I can't say I'd go out of my way to go back, but yeah, I'd spend a couple of days there -- definitely not blow through in just one day. One tour that is worth doing is Wat Doi Sep (spelling.) It's a temple on a mountain that you drive up and then take a cable car. It had some really good views of Chiang Mai. The cool thing is that you can see the light from the Wat at night from the LM's lounge. It's just a faint light in a sea of black, but I thought it was neat.
Don't forget that the LM Chiang Rai drops down to a Cat 2 this year.

If you turn right at the main Night Bazaar road (Chang Klan Road) and a short walk down that road, there is a small lane that leads you into a huge open-air square where there are probably a hundred stalls selling local souveniers, 20 odd restaurants (thai, seafood, halal thai, chinese, indian, middle eastern, western etc), live entertainment & simple local eateries.
You are really spoilt for choices staying at the LM. Theres also a 24hr McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks, Subway, Hagen Daaz etc all within 1 min walk, if you are so inclined.

Actually, you can see it during the day as well & you can also see the entire old city. You can even see the runway at CNX in the distance to your left !

Chiang Mai lacks the 'wow' factor but it does grow on you after a few visits. I have to admit I never use to like Chiang Mai but the LM did change my perspective of the city. If you are all done with the touristy stuff, I would rather spend my time in Chiang Mai (during winter) than Bangkok. Its a more pleasant version of Bangkok to me; the pace is slower, the weather cooler (during winter) and its relatively compact making it easy to get around with tuk-tuk at reasonable costs (unlike Phuket's tuk-tuk)
Would I go out of my way to go back ? Yes, I stayed at the LM twice within a month ! But then I didnt have to travel half way round the world to get there .....

This is excellent advice. I found the property to be great. However, i'm also a big fan of Chiang Mai so i'm very happy to have a quality starwood product in the area. Personally, I could easily spend four or five days in the city and surrounding area.

You know, when you put it that way, I would agree. Bangkok has its upsides, but it really is a dirty, congested Asian metropolis. One of the first things I said about Chiang Mai was "wow, you can get anywhere within a reasonable amount of time." I really did enjoy the dining and area around the hotel.

Oh, just to throw one in there about the quality vs category thing (from the other thread). My wife doesn't understand the SPG stuff all that well, and I had a hard time explaining to her why the LM was "just" a Category 2... not when the Aloft Dulles and Sheraton Herndon Dulles are Category 4
