I have always found better places to spend my time in Hong Kong than the Sheraton lounge, and suspect others may feel the same way.

Hi clublounger,

Why would you say that?

Perhaps you can elaborate more.

Assuming we are talking about the Plat lounge in the regular hotel.......

No windows, a fountain soda machine and some stale crackers. I think depressing sums it up quite well.

The Sheraton lounge is a great place to have some peace in Hong Kong!

I have to agree with mcgahat. The lounge in the Towers part of the hotel is amazing. The lounge Plats get access to in the regular part of the hotel is not pleasant. Some windows would go a long way.

Dry cleaning and laundry services nearby

Anybody knows any dry cleaners and laundry (for shirts etc) storefront near this hotel? Yeah, I'm sure the hotel itself has such a service but would like to avoid its ridiculous premium.

BTW, I tried searching Google maps, but it seems that its database is all in mandarin and didn't get any maps. Searched this board too.

The closest one I know is inside the Chun King Mansion. But, I don't go there - it's a very dingy/seedy environment.

Where I DO go is on Hankow Rd., towards the end. Walking towards Kowloon Park, there are a few laundries, on the left, ground level, inside the building(down the open air hallway) . THere is a "laundry" sign over the sidewalk. Very reliable, cheap and fast.

Aloha

Very grateful.

I've googled and found a posting (and another recommendation for the establishment) that identifies it as Mankee Laundry at Shop 24, Ground Floor, Hankow Apartments, 49 Hankow Road, Tsimshatsui.

The posting says that the laundry offers same day service and is open Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (closed Sundays), but there's no date on how recent that information is.

W Hotels Taipei in 2011?

I knew there're some new SPG properties will be opened in Taiwan:

Sheraton Yilan Resort, Taiwan - Opening July 1, 2009 (delay again)
Sheraton Penghu Hotel - Opening June 1, 2010
Sheraton Hsinchu Hotel, Taiwan - Opening July 1, 2010
Four Points by Sheraton Penghu - Opening December 1, 2010
Le Meridien Taipei - Opening December 1, 2010

But W Hotels Taipei in 2011? I lived in Taipei but I can't recall any buildings under construction/renovation was for W hotels in Taipei. The other one international chain hotel will be opened is Mandarin Oriental Taipei in 2010.

I agree - some windows would be nice. They've got free booze and decent appetizers in the evenings, but no ambiance, so to speak...

It needs far more than windows I am afraid. The place is a farce, and is a pathetic afterthought by the Hotel, to placate Plats and give them 'lounge' access.

I won't use the place that's for sure. I'd rather pay for drinks in a (half) decent bar.

The lounge is way too small and uncomfortable. I'd rather them just comp me a drink or 2 in the lrestaurant or in the mini bar.

Agreed. I stopped by last fall - no thanks. I usually scoot over to one of the many pleasant bars nearby.
