Stayed here two weekends ago but no platinum upgrade available. They did give me a corner room on a high floor which had a great view. Also they sent up a bottle of Veuve because they weren't able to upgrade me. Overall a great stay!
I've stayed here a few times. I feel the rooms are getting a bit tired. Love the property though. Anyone know when they are going to remodel or update the rooms?
Staying here right now. Got upgraded over the busy weekend to Fantastic Suite. The room is in decent condition. The lobby is still under renovation. My only complain for this property is the shower pressure..its REALLY weak.

My wife just stayed here and had the same complaint. Nice rooms, but she despised the rain shower in the bathroom. It's supposed to be more environmentally friendly, but you wind up just using a lot more water because it's hard to actually wash your hair etc.

I stayed here last week. Reserved a cool corner room and got a cool corner on a high floor. The staff was excellent. All around very nice treatment. Agree with many others that my only complaint is the water pressure in the shower - it is really not acceptable for a hotel of this caliber and price range.
I stayed here a few weeks ago and was not offered any sort of upgrade at Checkin. I brought up their website and was able to book a Suite so I knew at that point the front desk staff was not following procedure. I was quite tired and did not want to move rooms at that point so I e-mailed the manager on my return. A Nicolas Khairallah responded and initially claimed there were no suites available that night. When I made it clear to him that their website indicated he was not telling me the whole truth, his story changed and he blamed it on late cleaning or a late checkout. He stated that I would need to specifically ask if a suite would be available later, or his hotel would not upgrade a platinum. It should not be this hard to get the advertised benefits.
The hotel itself was nice, and the normal room I booked was more than sufficient.

That sucks...though the excuse the manager provided COULD be true. It's possible, though frustrating.
When I am in a situation similar to yours, I call the Platinum Concierge and let them do the dirty work. I tell the PC that I see suites/better rooms available on spg.com and I ask the PC to call the front desk and deal with it. Sometimes this strategy works, sometimes it doesn't. But, when it doesn't I get similar excuses as you received.

Forcing an upgrade says more about you than the Hotel. Enjoy the program but this sort of misbehavior cannot be promoted.
Just my notes from a trip. I'm not familiar with "standards for reporting" on this forum so please read only if you want a casual opinion from a platinum with SPG..
I stayed here in late May for one night on Points only - 12,000..
The entrance is on a corner and there is no driveway or cul-de-sac for the taxi to drop you off at. The cost for cab from Airport was around $30. .
I arrived around 12pm there was no line and the front desk said there were no upgrades for platinum although I got "the best room". The SPG website also showed no availability..
The room was a corner room and was surprisingly spacious. There was a well stocked minibar with napa valley wines, candy, chips, and hard liquor. I didn't indulge..
Bathroom was decent sized with two sinks, a standup shower with rainfall head. No tub. Amenities were standard sized W amenities - lemon flavor soaps etc..
The bed was very comfortable and it was similar to the Sheraton collection which I find comfortable..
The location is nice in That it is close to a few museums, many taxis come by and if you want to get a massage you can walk two blocks to the st Regis..
I went to st Regis for a massage - 1 hour 150 dollars. It was nice as they give access to the entire Spa for the day - pool, hot tub, steam room, fully stocked locker room with juice, shaving cream toothbrush, free pressing service was offered as well..
For Platinum amenity i chose breakfast which allows 16$ for breakfast for both guests! And it was a very nice menu and food was excellent. I had a spanish omelette which came with home fries and an awesome biscuit with fresh jam and butter..
Other quick notes.
Checkout was smooth.
Rooms were clean
Rooms were quiet - no noise from traffic or other rooms
Hotel is just $62 shuttle to Napa!
If I missed something I apologize. You can PM me if you want other thoughts or tips..
Just finished a two night stay here. Each night was booked under a separate reservation. The first night was a paid double bed reservation, the second night was a cash and points reservation for a king bed. At check-in we learned that the double bed reservation for the first night had been upgraded to a view on the 29th floor, while the king bed reservation had been upgraded to a cool corner room on the 10th floor. She couldn't put us in the cool corner for both nights citing "the king bed rooms sell out fast." I pointed out that there were still king beds for sale on the website to which she said "oh they'll sell them, that doesn't mean we have them." The check-in agent was very nice and recommended we stay in the room with the view for both nights and moved us to the 24th floor to a room she thought had an even better view than the 29th floor room we had been assigned. We got to the room and it was like the view posted earlier in the thread.
We sat in the Living Room for about 15 minutes at 8:15 pm one night and no server came by to take our order. We moved to the restaurant to eat instead. The food at Trace was good. There was coffee in the lobby in the mornings but look for it at the back of the bar. The gym was small but the treadmills and ellipticals are fine.
I always look for non-valet parking options if possible and I found it possible at this hotel. We entered the hotel from Howard Street just after 3rd Street to check in and drop off our bags. I asked the valet for non-valet options and he pointed to a parking garage for a nearby museum that can be accessed by driving through the hotel's alley. The valet showed me exactly where to go. Parking in there is $30 a day with no in and out privileges as opposed to the $50 valet. The hours for the garage seemed like it might be too restrictive for our plans. I ventured back out onto Howard Street and found street parking between 5th and 7th streets for the rest of the weekend (Friday and Saturday nights). This is about a 10 minute walk. The meters have to be fed 7 am to 6 pm Mon - Sat, $3/hr. Sundays are free. There was an unattended public parking lot on Howard between 5th and 6th streets on the right hand side that was $7 for every 12 hours on the weekends so I parked there during meter hours.
