I believe there is a Mr. Chow in this hotel. Will be interesting to see how it does; both of the Mr. Chow locations here in NYC have been CRUSHED by the economic downturn.

Its been pushed back even more...July 1st is the new opening date!
I am a bnit nervous since I am booked to arrive July 4th and now the Ritz is booked up so if they dont open on July 1st I am screwed
Sorry for the delay in responding. Cheap Elite is correct about the location. There are a number of good restaurants within walking distance. Fairly convenient location.
If it's near the Setai, then NOBU is in the hood...and that place ROCKS! The ambiance is a bit lackluster for SOBE...but the food is da bomb! Get the ABC (Alaskan Black Cod)!
I would actually prefer Bond Street which is a block south of the W. Best sushi in Miami in our opinion. Much smaller, not as much of a scene (unless that is what you are looking for).

NOBU is that not that good. My friends in Miami stopped eating there a long time ago because its gone way downhill.

I guess it's all a matter of personal taste...we ate there in October of 08 and had a great meal! Like I said, I didn't like the atmosphere as I didn't think it was the "scene" I expected, but the food was terrific. We ate at Bond st. the night before and left after a few pieces and a drink...didn't care for the food or the scene. Restaurants have on nights and off nights, just like all of us!

Bond Street = one of my fave restaurants of all time...such a great place to chil and VERY YUMMY ....

A heads-up for those who want to use the Plat desk to make a reservation here. I just made a reservation for the W for a stay in September. I wanted to use one of my free night stays I've built up so I had to call this one in. The online tool showed both paid and award inventory for my dates though. Unfortunately, the Plat CSR couldn't see any availability. Their tool showed the hotel as being booked up.
We were able to solve the problem by my making an award reservation using points online. The CSR then refunded my points and pulled one of my free nights. So if anyone is planning on calling in to make a reservation, they may have some issues.

W South Beach....how is it looking?
I am torn for my trip next weekend (4th of July) about staying at this hotel since its due to open July 2nd.
Anybody been near there and see if things look complete or how the pool looks?
My back up is the Ritz South Beach

I can't say how it "looks" per se, but I just talked with some of the staff about a reservation I have there in September. According to the person I talked with there, everything is still on target for their July 2nd opening.
So if you decide to stay there, make sure you drop back by here and let us know how everything turned out.

After speaking to somebody today at the hotel I am goign to stick with the Ritz Carlton this time....Spa, Chow resturant and the main bar/club will not yet be open. When I asked if everything else will be I was told "99% sure"....too much can go wrong I think. Thinking back to when I stayed at the W Silicon Valley the same week it openedit it was very disorganized
