The Sheraton Jumeirah is a nice hotel, but the Grosvenor House is a really great hotel. IMHO, the only reasons to choose the Sheraton, is the direct beach access and the current constructions, that are heavier around Grosvenor House.

I'd pick Grosvenor House over 5000 points anyday if in Dubai for anything but a short stop.

I booked a long stay at the Grosvenor house. with the recently announced promotion I will miss the opportunity to earn additional 17000 *points. would I switch to sheraton? NO way. I always wanted to try this hotel but since it was not participating in SPG program i always choose one of the Jumeirah group hotels over the Grosvenor. now that this hotel joined the program i am really looking forward for my upcoming stay there. i have not heard a single bad comment or review about this hotel yet.

Booked a three night stay and I have only completed one night.

Absolutly horrbile hotel considering the price, I have completed a six night stay at the Grosvenor House and would loved to extend it but due to the hotel being sold out I couldnt do that. Even though the Duty Manager offered one but it was in the last minute and I have already booked at this hotel.

After checking-in we were upgraded to a junior suite which was on the 1st floor so there was no view of the sea, we changed to a room on the 7th floor and had a great view of the sea.

Here are the complaints,The hotel is very tired, we were told there was afternoon tea, so when we went up to the lounge on the top floor it turned out it was only tea. The A/C had lots of noises which made it hard to sleep at night so I did not get enough sleep, so we overslept until 12 PM where we recieved a call that woke us up and I was annoyed by it and asked to call later, Got another call again at 3 PM and I did not answer, then again 10 minutes later and straight after that the housekeeper got in our room while were sleeping (even though it was on DND).

I really got upset by this and requested to leave early, sorry but 1740 AED for one night is ridiculous, the Grosvenor House were offering 1440 AED, way cheaper and much better services.

I would not recommend anyone to stay at this hotel unless it's under 400 AED.

1740 AED = 473 USD.

Quick question: were you checking out the day of the "break-in"?

Yes, I'm still amazed how this hotel is more expensive than the Grosvenor House.

Overslept until noon? Then back to bed till 3? If you hadn't arranged your late check out I'm sure the call was to arrange that. Why would that be considered intrusive and bothersome?

Housekeeping may have entered before 4 which was a problem I agree. However it sounds like it was after 3, so understandable it would happen closer to 4.

The hotel has a business to run and trying to communicate with their guests for late check out is one of them to help manage inventory. Don't see any problem except for housekeeping entering before 4.

No, this was not the case, I have booked a 3 night stay, but this happened after the 1st night, so I checked out 2 days earlier.

if lounge will be open, yes, you will have lounge access as a plat. As for breakfast, if the lounge is open, you can have breakfast there. do not expect free breakfast unless the lounge was closed or if its included in your rate. Of course YMMV if they give you free breakfast for being a plat. even if the lounge was open.

Thumbs down upgrade shenanigans...

a quick trip report. went last weekend with wife and 2-year-old on a c&p stay. overall a 'fine' hotel. nothing special. dated and grounds and pool or ok - like a mid level Florida hotel...now for some upgrade shenanigans...

I checked in Friday, March 11 with our friends. I have Platinum status - they have none -- as in no status. We both booked 2 seperate basic rooms - us on cash and points and them on a paid rate of like $500 US. Separate reservations. Upon check-in I was told, 'congratulations, you have been upgraded to a Tower Ocean View Suite.' Wow, I thought, I didn't even have to ask. This came with the whole Platinum you have been upgraded key-card slip. Went up to our room. And? It was a tiny mid-floor room facing the street and construction. No suite. No partial ocean view. Nothing. I called down and expressed my concern and asked to speak to a manager. She got on and said -- 'no, you haven't been upgraded. he must have been mistaken.' I asked how the desk clerk could have made that mistake? She then said, OK we will transfer you to an ocean view room. So we were moved across the hall. Same room, better view. No suite. No upgrade...The best part? Our no-status friends were given an ocean-view room upon check-in -- a better room than us! Even though we checked in at the same moment and availability was the same...shady business at this place. I asked to speak to another manager after this and someone who said he was a manager, but whose nametag said otherwise, insisted there were no upgrades available and had no anwser why our friends got a better room than us...

Anyway...dont expect much here. But an OK, dated place.

Been a while since anyone has posted. Going to stay here on a free resort night in a couple weeks. Any recent stays or critiques?

Critique?

They are building a rather tall building next to the Sheraton. They work until 9PM in the evening or so. If you are planning to have quality and quiet time by the pool, you can forget about it. There is constant noise.

Writing this from the pool bar where they have rather noisy fans spinning. I am about to unplug them.

Remember to bring your Bose headphones or earplugs for your entire group.

just finished a pretty decent 4 night stay here....was upgraded to a junior suite....room service food was good....breakfast had plenty of options....had lunch one day at the al hadiqa restraunt & it was quite good....

i did however face a little bit of an issue regarding a late checkout....i called the front desk the evening before to ask for a late checkout....now i realise this is a resort & the 4pm guaranteed checkout would not apply but i asked nevertheless without any expectations....

i was informed that the hotel was full & they could not offer me a late checkout....the hotel did not seem full at all....you can often tell by the number of people at breakfast or the number of people moving around in the lobby, etc....nevertheless, since i was not entitled to a late checkout i did not feel the need to argue with her....

when i got back to the hotel after dinner that evening i went over to the front desk to hire a car for my meeting in the morning....after taking my request the agent himself asked me what time i would be checking out tomorrow....i told him that i would prefer a late checkout but i understand the hotel is full....he seems surprised at that comment & said the hotel is nowhere near being full & he could offer me a checkout as late as 6pm....

i just wonder what was the need for the earlier agent to lie????

I redeemed four of my free resort nights earned earlier in 2011 at this property a few weeks ago. Frankly after reading this thread I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. As a Gold I was upgraded to a corner suite on the first floor (was given the choice of that or a sea view - I chose the corner). Staff were helpful and friendly, location was great - just at the end of the JBR Walk, breakfast spread was fantastic.

It's walkable to the Jumeirah Beach Towers Metro station if you're a city explorer like me, although if you're coming or going with bags just pay the $3 for a cab.

Also received 4:00pm checkout with none of the "we're a resort and can't do it" shenanigans. Don't think I'd pay $400+/night for the place, but it's really quite a nice award option.
