What a program!
I was looking for 50% off rooms at the Westin Regina in Los Cabos in January. As most of your are probably aware, the only award that has capacity controls is the 50% discount.
They could not find more than 5 nights in a row at that rate. I settled for a reservation for those 5 @ $165 + 3 more at a promotional rate of $314/night. After having trouble finding award air travel for the dates of the hotel, I found tix on AA for two days longer a stay (one more at begining and end).
I knew that would work for me and my wife, but what about the hotel. So I called back SPG and explained the situation. The computer showed only one night (the new first night) available for the 50% off. The other additional night would be an additional $314. Then Bob at SPG said, "this is crazy, you're going use an additional 1500 points for half price for just one additional night? Let me call the hotel directly as see what I can do."
Well, 2 hours later HE CALLED ME BACK. Not only had Bob gotten the 2 additional nights at 50% off, but the 3 I had originally booked for full price at half price as well.
Bottom line, because of Bob at SPG, I am paying less for 10 nights than I had expected to pay for 8.
Boy I love this program and the people that support it!
