Talking Noob wants to start early to get to St Regis Bora Bora

Hello all,

I am completely new to SPG.

I have an AMEX platinum and have requested and received Gold Preferred Guest with Starwood.

I would like to stay at the St Regis Bora Bora in the summer of 2014 so I am beginning to plan now.

What is the cheapest way to stay there?

How should I go about booking?

Should I get an Amex SPG credit card? I have no problem getting a card if needed.

What promotions should I be looking for or signing up?

What is a good deal that I should target for the St Regis?

When should I begin book rooms there?

I have a approximately 220,000 american express points.

thanks in advance.

good luck OP, its going to cost like 60-100k points a night at minimum I think. So i guess maybe put a million dollars on the card in the next year and you will be set for a week!! LOL better bet to just pay the nightly rate if you can afford it.

also amex points are diffrent from SPG points. They do transfer but 3-1 ratio so your 200,000 amex points turn to like 66k spg points. It would be a waste to convert them.

Actually now costs around 120,000-140,000 points

Bora Bora is the worse redemption of all SPG properties. It is actually now costs around 120,000-140,000 points per night. Much better to pay cash. There are other properties that are only 30,000 a night that probably make more sense..

Check out St. Regis in Punta Mita, Puerto Rico, and Kauai for starters. There are also some great luxury collection properties that are very nice. Just depends on what type of vacation you prefer.

I agree about the excessive amount of points required at the SPG Bora Bora properties (St Regis or Le Meridien).
The IC Thalasso Bora Bora is a very nice property and one (or two, if you are not going alone) Chase Priority Club Visa cards + IC Ambassador card(s) might get you interesting deals.

I used to aspire for the St. Regis Bora Bora until I did some research last year and learned the above fact through FT. I got over Bora Bora for now until I save up enough cash to get there.
