Police breaking door down a couple rooms down (Aloft Green Bay)
I am at the Aloft in Green Bay. About 6:00 this morning I was awakened by loud pounding on a door a couple down from me and police yelling for the occupant to come out. Outside my window are multiple police cars, lights flashing.
The pounding continued on and off for about 1 hour 40 minutes, close enough and loud enough to hear various threats, the guy's name they are going after. They kept saying they were going to break the door down and the guy should just give up, "It's over, XXXX, come out and make this easy." It got to the point where I wanted to go in the hall and see if they wanted help... just break the damn door down.
Then they brought in a canine unit and I could hear the dog whining in the hall and finally about 15 minutes ago they broke through the door and put the dog on him. Apparently he was hiding under the bed because they were yelling over and over for him to put his hands up and get out from under the bed.
I assume there was not perceived immediate threat to guests since they never evacuated anyone or phoned me or anything. I think it's the room 2 down from me.
Just posting as it's probably the oddest experience I have had in a hotel. Coincidentally it's my 50th night at *wood this year!

Surprising as the Green Bay aloft is in a suburban location that doesn't seem at all "sketchy." My impression is that it's well run and doesn't attract a "sketchy" clientele either.
I wonder what the circumstances were. Has anything been reported in the local newspaper or on local TV news coverage? Was the door literally broken down? Why didn't management give the cops a key card or something rather than have the building damaged? My understanding is that hotel management has a way to enter rooms where the deadbolt and other locking devices have been used.

What happened to the Law and Order ruse of feigning a maintenance emergency to get the occupant to open the door?
Manager: I need to check your room because a smell of smoke has been reported? Is there a fire in your room?
Occupant: Just a minute...
Manager: I'm entering with my passkey
Hotel staff opens door and gets out of way as police storm in before suspect can escape through the window. Same result, but no need to break down the door.

After venturing out for breakfast and then checking out, they did in fact go through the door two rooms down from mine. I asked why it took so long to deal with and hotel staff mentioned they were concerned about safety of the police entering and of guests and did not know if the occupant was armed.
I am not a big complainer and did not ask for anything as it's clearly beyond the property's control but, unprompted, the front desk staff said the GM would contact me via email about the matter. I said no problem.

Great start to my Monday morning!
Did anyone say anything about why the police wanted the person or how the criminal came to be staying at the aloft?
I assume from your description that the door to the room was completely destroyed. Did they use a battering ram? Or were the police able to simply force the door open.

Because there are no criminals in the "good" part of town, right?
Cheers,

A Google search just might turn up some of that information for you...
