We’re excited to announce the details of our newest promotion, SPG® Better by the Night. Yes, the name might sound familiar but we think it’s bigger and better than our promotion earlier this year by the same name. Here are the details:
- Earn double Starpoints on stays of 1 or 2 nights.
- Earn triple Starpoints on stays of 3 nights or more.
- Plus, earn 250 additional bonus Starpoints for stays booked at spg.com, or 500 additional bonus Starpoints for stays booked through the SPG mobile app for iPhone®.

All earnings are from October 1 through December 20, 2012. Stay earnings are at over 1,000 participating hotels and resorts worldwide (a list of non-participating properties can be found on our Better by the Night page). The booking bonuses are eligible for all Starwood hotels and resorts that participate in the SPG program, regardless of whether or not the hotel is participating in this promotion.

Earnings are unlimited, and the registration window will begin mid-September. In the meantime you can visit spg.com/betterbythenight to learn more, and to sign up for a text reminder message alerting you when registration begins (available for U.S. and U.K. members).

I found this in the FAQ:

Q:Will eligible stays or nights prior to registration count towards my earning?
A: Yes, as long as the member registers by November 30, 2012, any eligible paid stays or nights from October 1, 2012, through December 20, 2012, will count toward earning.

I also found this in the FAQ:

Q: If I booked my stay prior to the promotion period, are my stays eligible for the web and mobile app booking bonuses?
A: Bookings made prior to the promotion period are eligible, but only eligible stays by a registered member during the promotion period will receive bonus Starpoints.

SPG50 can't be booked online or through the mobile app, but it would be eligible for all other bonuses, provided the other conditions of the promotion are met.

I was really excited... until I read the long list of non-participating hotels. There went ~6k starpoints on an expensive existing booking.

Wow, thanks for announcing this promo so quickly!. Also, like that it is relatively straightforward. Though disappointed by the rather lengthy non-participating property list (especially severe in some locations - Germany, Chicago, New York, etc)
