Sheraton Saigon seems to be keeping their old policy. Checked in today and was offered 500 points in addition to breakfast in either the club lounge or the Saigon Cafe on the first floor. (Combo of a free night & the basic paid rate that did not include breakfast).

The Westin Grande Sukhumvit has always provided free breakfast for Plats in the Executive Lounge but not the buffet downstairs. When I checked in this evening I was told that the Continental Breakfast amenity choice will be used to enable those that want the full buffet downsars to choose that. So essentially you can "upgrade" to the breakfast buffet or choose to take the 500 points while enjoying the breakfast in the lounge as usual.
Offered continental-only breakfast as amenity. No possibility to pay for upgrading to full buffet breakfast that costs 25eur.
We had non-status company and skipped the whole idea of breakfast in the hotel. Instead, took a cafe in the hotel basement and had sufficient breakfasts for the four of us - total cost 21eur.
OT: The wine & bite in the basement (not part of the hotel) was excellent

When I stayed there last August/September, I was offered a choice of breakfast in the lounge or downstairs buffet. I was told that I could go to either each day. I went to the downstairs buffet most days, and the staff seemed to have a list of PLT guests.

Provides platinum's BOTH breakfast and choice of the 500 point amenity or free in-room movie. I clarified with the front desk agent and he was adamant that plats get both. Considering the property is a piece of crap, this is a pretty perk, as the breakfast buffet is a nice spread (and goes for around $23/each) with a very friendly service staff.

During periods of alarmingly low occupancy (e.g. Red shirt protests, floods) things are shaken up a bit. But during normal times the Exec Club is the only complimentary breakfast.

Makes me more inclined to stay there if I had to. :P
BTW, thanks to the OP for compiling this and maintaining this thread. Very helpful!

Can one of the lurkers look into this? My wife can't eat gluten, hence without the option to upgrade to a full breakfast, this benefit is not very useful. We actually have a stay coming up at the W Istanbul this summer. At $300+ Euro/night, it's unfortunate to see a property trying to nickel and dime like this.

5.Can a Platinum Preferred Guest member elect to receive a full breakfast at a reduced cost, instead of the complimentary continental breakfast?
At hotels where a full breakfast and continental breakfast exist, a Platinum Preferred Guest member who elects the complimentary continental breakfast as his/her welcome gift will be able to upgrade to full breakfast for the price difference between the full and continental options.
Was this wrt to the $12.50 voucher at the W Westwood? So is the voucher still a dollar amount or does it not offer a specific set of items?
I don't know what they were handing out originally, but there is anecdotal evidence to suggest that the vouchers supplied by SPG list a specific set of items and that is what they have reverted to now.

I did look into this and while the properties are being encouraged to grant a buy-up option, they are not obligated to do so.

To be clear, are you saying that you were offered precisely:
coffee
juice
cereal
and nothing more?
In other words, 2 beverages and a cereal. No option for fruit/yogurt/baked item? I'm not sure that most of us would consider cereal and drinks to be sufficient.
I'd be happy with coffee, juice, fruit and a muffin/croissant/pastry, I guess, but I'm disappointed if hotels can legitimately offer a cereal bowl and call that adequate.

The vision for this enhancement surely never included a hotel's choosing to offer a small table OUTSIDE OF THE RESTAURANT with a plate of muffins.
